Bengaluru, Jan 1: In another people-friendly approach, police personnel from the city succeeded in bringing back smiles on the faces of several citizens on the New Year eve. They went to the doorsteps of citizens who had lost their valuables in thefts and robberies, to deliver to them such goods at the stroke of midnight.

City police commissioner, T Sunil Kumar, Ravi Channannavar, deputy commissioner of police (west), Annamalai, went to houses to deliver the stolen ornaments. The police said that the sense of relief people get at getting back stolen ornaments, that too when they were delivered personally by higher officials, were invaluable.

To make the New Year celebrations safer, the police also deployed sniffer dogs on important roads in the city. Women cops went visiting home stays and other accommodations, distributing pamphlets containing guidelines and telephone numbers of nearest police stations for use in case of emergencies.
