Congress, JD(S) likely to follow 2:1 seat sharing for LS polls

Bengaluru, Jan 1: Amid speculation of rift between alliance partners Congress and JD(S) regarding seat sharing in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, senior JD(S) leader Danish Ali said 2:1 formula should be followed for this year's general elections in Karnataka and the larger share should be of Congress.

As per this formula, of the 28 Lok Sabha seats in the state, the Congress should get 18 seats and the JD(S) 10 seats.

"Friendly fight on any seat should be the last option... The Congress and the JD(S) should steer clear of it," Danish Ali was quoted telling media.

Even JD(S) chief H D Kumaraswamy had told PTI, "Let there be no unnecessary confusion regarding sharing of Lok Sabha seats...Kumaraswamy has expressed his opinion about JD(S) contesting from 12 seats, we (the Congress and the JD(S)) will sit and decide, we will do the seat sharing smoothly.”

Sources say that friction in the coalition started with Congress showing ‘big brother’ attitude, which made JD(S) ask top brass that they want to contest in all 28 seats. However, Deve Gowda intervened and it’s said that formal discussions will finalize by January 15, as Parliament session will continue till January 8.

    It is time for Kannadigas to librate Karnataka communal and divisive politics of the BJP.

    The simple seat sharing formula has already brought them success in recently held bye-poll elections. The Congress party may need to make more sacrifice for the betterment of the party as well as the state.
    In Madhya Pradesh, a split in anti-BJP votes led to Congress losing 34 seats in the state. The figures say it all. A detailed analysis of MP assembly election result reveals that if the Congress had cobbled a pre-poll seat-sharing with other opposition parties, it would have been in a position to bag at least 155 seats out of 230. With the Alliance getting a clear two-thirds majority, the BJP’s tally would have shrunk to 75.
    In another BJP-RSS will try desperately to break the coalition using the illicit wealth of Bellary Reddy's and his relative Shriramalau any time soon as most of the disgruntled Congress leaders are taking a hostage in BJP's office in Delhi. In most likely scenario BJP wants to dissolve the Karnataka assembly to have a fresh election with Lok Sabha using the same formula of Goa.
    In the coming days when the BJP is the comfort of the majority with buying leaders the party might call for a vote of confidence. When the coalition majority drops the CM Kumaraswamy may dissolve the state assembly. At the same BJP will try to buy the opposition from both the party to stake the claim of government.
    For the interest of the coalition, seat sharing is the best option of the time.

    Its upto you to live in delusion that Cong has the upper hand and has got a smart deal . JDS has cashed on Congress bid for survival. Cong has walked into the trap and has to bite the bitter pill again. Dodda Gowdru is touted to be the next CM if the Mahaghatbandhan wins.

    Actually Congress gets a very raw deal with this seat sharing pact as traditionally JD(S) has been strong only in 6 LS constituencies - Mysuru, Mandya, Bengaluru Rural, Hassan, Davangere and Shimoga.
    The extra 4 seats is bonus for Kumaranna & DG!
    Congress is made sacrificial lamb here
