Bengaluru, Jan 3: Newly inducted home minister, M B Patil, has given instructions to the police officials to exercise strict control over drugs mafia in the entire state including the city. He also wants the department to keep vigil on illegal immigrants.

He conveyed clear instructions at a meeting of senior police officers he held at the committee room of Vidhana Soudha here on Wednesday January 2. He wanted the officers to lay special emphasis on maintenance of law and order, regulating crimes and efficient handling of criminal cases, regulating drugs mafia and finding out cases of illegal immigration.

Expressing worry over the young generation getting addicted to drugs, Patil noted that this is a dangerous development. He noted that a number of cases of illegal immigration including from Bangladesh are being reported,and asked police department to be alert.

"Criminals do not belong to any particular class of the society. Criminals are criminals and they should be treated as such. Do not bend under any kind of influence or pressure from anyone. Take action without fear or favour against people indulging in rowdyism and those involved with creating terror in the minds of the people," he ordered.

Speaking to media persons after the meeting, the home minister said that this was the first ever meeting he held as home minister with senor officers of the department. He said he gathered information on several issues including law and order situation from the officers. He agreed that several plans are pending in the department and he would take measures to complete them. Another meeting on similar lines is being held again on January 8, he revealed.

Patil stated that the officials told him that 113 illegal immigrants have been detected till now, and they have been told to keep close watch on the problem of illegal immigration.
