Mangalore: Auto Rickshaws to Stay Off Roads on Dec 30

Mangalore, Dec 24: Coordinating committee of Dakshina Kannada District Organizations of Auto Drivers has said, that the auto rickshaws will stay off the roads for one day all over the district on December 30, demanding the withdrawal of the government order, making it mandatory to fit gas kits for all the auto rickshaws.

The committee has decided to observe a day's strike from the midnight on December 29, to the midnight on December 30. It wants the impugned order to kept in abeyance till at least 15 LPG gas stations are set up all over the city.

At 10 am on December 30, the auto drivers will gather at the Nehru Maidan here, march to the office of the deputy commissioner in a procession, hold a protest meeting in front of his office and submit a memorandum to the state transport commissioner through the deputy commissioner. The committee has requested all the auto drivers in the district to support the cause and  has sought the support of the auto drivers working in Udupi, Puttur and other places to support the strike.

In a press release, committee convener B Vishnumurthy has asked for the moral support of the public for the strike. The strike call is supported by the HMS, BMS, CITU, Suratkal Rickshaw Drivers Association, Shramik Rickshaw Drivers Association, Minority Rickshaw Owners Association, Park Committees, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike etc., he explained.

    I'm so happy that on 30th December we can travel on the road without any fear. These autos are really a pain most of the time.

    That was a very cynical comment by Mr. Kamath. Auto s offer good service to the community in mangalore unlike in other places such as blore. Think about all the patients who need to use the autos.Autos are not the only hazards that we have on roads. What about potholes, kids speeding on motorbikes, erratic walking.crossing habits of pedestrians? I think the autos are justified for once this time. You cannot expect them to travel from one corner of the city to another without having refilling stations.

    Welcome break from the auto hazard on roads. These truant Auto should be brought in line in the interest of the passengers and Environment.
