Mangalore, Dec 31: The Coastal Security Force, with the combined support of the ports and fisheries department as well as the local policemen, has sounded for a state of high alert all along the coastal Karnataka, in view of the possibility of anti-social elements making a bid to foment trouble on the New Year eve.

In addition to taking precautionary measures, the policemen of the Coastal Security Force and the Coast Guard staff will intensively patrol the shores during this period. The police department has already issued instructions to the affect that all the celebrations connected with the New Year should come to an end by 12.30 am tonight. Activities have been banned after 10 pm on Wednesday December 31, in Panambur, Tannirbavi and Suratkal beaches. Deputy Superintendent of police Jayant V Shetty said that riding of vehicles in an inebriated condition has been banned and the drunken drivers and those travelling in vehicles without possessing valid documents at night will be dealt with sternly.

He has clarified, that those willing to use microphones for celebrating the New Year need to obtain written permission in advance from the concerned authorities and under no circumstances use of microphones after the specified hours at night would be allowed. People playing vulgar songs in public places or those dancing in an uncivilized manner will also face the wrath of the policemen. The revellers have also been warned not to behave in a way that might hurt the religious sentiments and the senior citizens.

In the light of accidents that have occured during the New Year celebrations in the past, the policemen have asserted that the number of people travelling in two wheelers and other vehicles should not exceed the prescribed capacity at any cost. Such violations if found, will be legally acted against, they have said.

The organizers of private programmes have been asked to take care to ensure that their programme does not extend to public places. A release from the office of the superintendent of police here has also asked bars and wine shops to close business as specified in their permits.
