Mr. Arun, do not be harsh on Communists. Their policies are not bad. They want equal distribution of wealth. The poor and the downtrodden have full faith in them. Kerala and West Bengal are free from communal tension, and people are living with dignity and honour. These states are better than BJP ruled states. People have realized the dangers of capitalism and see the global financial crisis. Before making any comment let us be fair. Long live workers unity.

Dear People, No one has mentioned about the politics involved here. Look at the people holding Communist flags. The intentions are clear. please do not allow mlore to become another Kerala or West Bengal. They are the weeds in the society and should be removed at the root level. Please do not support them.

While all of us should sympathise with the Beedi workers, the fact remains that smoking of Beedi is definetely injurious to normal health. We should look out for alternative means to employ these Beedi workers.

Bilal - why don't we let them deal with cocaine, the profit margins are higher and they can have a better quality of life. This industry has had a strong lobby for decades and we have seen the owners amass a lot of wealth, these bidi workers have not changed much. I think we have to curb this very fast, there is no point in trying to reduce gradually.

Further, the anti smoking is to abolish smoking and this way it will not entice children from smoking. Do you feel that to keep this industry alive that it is "OK" to have teenager's smoke ?. I was a chain smoker for 10 years and I started at the age of 14. It took me a while to get out of the habit. I just would not encourage anyone to smoke ...

Their livlyhood depend on these beedies, let the government arrange proper arrangement to these poor beedi workers and solve their problems first. Then only Government can take anti smoking act. Really a great coverage from Daiji one can see how beedi brought intercast harmoney. We can see all together like one family.

Do these protesters know the bad effects of Beedis ? The trade may have given them livelihood, education for their children and so on but do they realize how much they partake in promoting diseases related to tobacco ? The Govt. first studies a problem and then brings a law. Beedi/cigarettes are as harmful just as are spurious liquor the protesters need to be educated on this. The trade need to be slowly shed and people shifted to some other industry.
