Bangalore, Jan 2: Speaking to reporters on Thursday January 1, chief minister B S Yeddyurappa said that his cabinet colleagues have been advised to prune down their sojourns and work to the maximum by being present in their offices in the Vidhan Soudha, to ensure that the government provides a development-oriented and stable administration in the state.
"Our government has the support of 115 MLAs at present, with the victory of five of our candidates in the by-poll. In addition, we have the support of six independents. Hence, I request the opposition to cooperate with the government on developmental issues. I will not be following the politics of vengeance," he announced.
He clarified, that he has decided not to file defamation suit against ex-premier Deve Gowda for the derogatory comments he had passed against the chief minister in connection with the Bangalore-Mysore corridor project entrusted to NICE company, as announced earlier. "I have respect for Gowda and hence have decided to drop the idea," Yeddyurappa said. When questioned about the fate of the defamation suit already filed by him against ex-chief minister H D Kumaraswamy, the chief minister answered in the negative, reasoning that the case is in an advanced stage now.
Rejecting outright the opposition demand for ordering a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry into the assault on Made Gowda in Mandya, he said that the government had acted immediately by transferring the deputy commissioner and superintendent of police of the said district within an hour of the incident. The inquiry will be conducted by the divisional commissioner, he clarified.
The chief minister wished that the number of visitors to the Vidhan Soudha will drastically fall in the coming days, as the government is actively involved with the mass contact programme for addressing their problems.
