Udupi: St. Mary’s College, Shirva - First Batch Students' Reunion after 25 years

Udupi, Jan 6: It was a unique reunion of all the stalwarts of the first batch (1980-1983) of St. Mary’s College, Shirva. After a gap of 25 years the first batch students met each other recently at the college premises.
The Programme began with an invocation sung by all followed by a formal welcome by Gilbert Pinto, Class leader of Final Year B.A (1983). The Function was presided over by Fr. Henry Castelino the then Principal of the College, The Correspondent Fr. Richard Coelho, The Present Principal of the College Dr. J.C. Miranda, Mickey Castelino representing B.com and Dr. Edward Mathias representing B.A were on the Dais.
Fr. Castelino reminiscenced his first batch memories and recalled the sweet and sour days of the past. He was very happy to see the first batch students in the present position. Prof. Ronald Moras, Dr. Ganesh Bhat the then Lecturers recalled their experiences of Yore. The Principal Dr. J.C. Miranda requested the gathering to support the college in their future academic activities.
The brain behind this unique programme Mickey Castelino spoke on the occasion and went down the memory lane and recollected the sweet moments of the past. Dr. Edward Mathias and Rev Dr Valerian Menezes also spoke and shared their memories of the first three years of college life.
It was unanimously decided to establish a fund in the name of 1st batch students to educate the rural poor students.
Mable Machado proposed vote of thanks while Irene Mendonca, Class leader of Final Year B. Com (1983) compared the whole programme.
The programme concluded with a fellowship lunch.
