Moodbidri, Jan 9: The second day of Alvas Virasat saw a serene environment, turned so by the soul-touching music by well-known composers like Purandardasa, rendered beautifully by Anuradha Shreeram and Shreeram Parashuram couple who stood up to the expectations of the musical connoisseurs who had gathered to experience the music to the fullest. This lovely and highly talented couple graced with Swara Saraswathi made this evening delightedly memorable for thousands of music lovers in their own way. The art and music have no language barriers, of course, and this was evident in no uncertain terms when the couple presented devotional compositions by Purandaradasa like ' Idu Bhagya idu Bhagya' and 'Ramamantrava Japiso Neenu Manuja', as the distinguished audience experienced divine elation.
The function was inaugurated by Gadag MLA Shalappa along with organizer Dr Mohan Alva.
Pandit Raveendra Yavagal provided musical accompaniment on tabla, Vidhwan B Raghavan on violin, Pandit Umakanth Puranik on harmonium, Vidhwan Sudhendra on mridangam and Chandraprabha on tambourine ably and contributed to the success of the concert.
Both Anuradha and Shreeram represent the global generation. Their fusion works are a fine blend of the east and west. Anuradha's pop album,' Chennai Girl' which was released in 1997, was a thriller and set a record for itself, selling over three lac copies within three months of its release. It led to a music video on MTV and then to a series of stage shows all over India. Anuradha reached every house hold in Tamil Nadu as an anchor of highly successful Tamil TV's Aantakshari.
The couple has recently made the foray into the national market with the release of their first English - Hindi pop album. The couple proved that they are a rare gift of artistic rapport and expression which have taken them to this height.
