Planning to ban rallies from Ambedkar Circle to DC’s office: T R Suresh

Mangaluru, Feb 1: To reduce traffic congestion as well as to enable smooth road widening work, the Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate is planning to ban rallies from Ambedkar Circle to DC’s office.

Addressing a press meet at Mangaluru Press Club on Friday, February 1, Mangaluru police commissioner T R Suresh said, “At present, roads in Mangaluru are not in a state where widening can take place. Every year there is an inclusion of 1 lac vehicles and while it is challenging to provide basic facilities, procession and rallies cause further inconvenience resulting in traffic congestion.”

With conventions and programmes being held in Nehru Maidan and Football ground, there are plans to introduce parking facilities in the ground itself, whenever such programmes occur to avoid congestion, Suresh added.

“Many a time, private events, marriage functions also contribute to traffic congestion. Meetings will be held with local corporations, gram panchayats to create awareness as well as effectively plan events,” he added.

“Police are taking stringent action against drug menace in the city and even creating awareness in educational institutions. Police have taken strict steps with regard to tackling rowdy elements and their activities in the city,” Suresh added.

“Police phone-in-programme was first introduced by then police commissioner Chandrashekar. This programme helps police directly know the problems faced by the people. We can attend 35 calls in an hour and address people’s problem directly and help in overall development on the city,” the commissioner said.

"We have stressed for smooth vehicular movement. Instead of ‘No horn day’, we have decided to implement 'No Horn Zone'. We have identified places like Hampankatta to Clock tower and KMC to Milagres road and notification has been passed. Awareness will be created and ‘No horn Zone’ will be implemented soon,” said T R Suresh.

DCP Uma Prashanth, district working journalist union president Srinivas Indaje, general secretary Ibrahim Adkastala and others were present.

Very good decision, but how Suresh sir will implement. I got my own doubts, that if Nehru maidan or Football ground matrked for parking, how our Traffic police will control it. At the same time number of cars and vehicles coming to parking means lot of traffic block. I advice that both the grounds should not be given for any function or meeting's. All protest ,demonstration, any political party meeting including top leaders of India, should hold their meetings outskirts of the main city area. Otherwise this Traffic block nobody can control. If any body wants to give memorandums to DC, only 4 to 5 representatives should be allowed. That's all.

There is one more extremely critical clause to be added here:
Any deliberate destruction of private or public property during bandhs and protests to be reimbursed/compensated by the offender himself/herself.
Once this is strictly implemented everything will fall in place.
As of now these anti social elements vandalise property as if it us nobody's business. This needs to be strictly monitored and controlled.

Banning rallies is a sensible thing to do. It will avoid the unnecessary block/congestion which is prevelent during peak hours. The 'No horn Zone' approach will help reduce noise pollution. Hopefully, implementation will be done soon enough.

If there is a will there is way. When the corporation is broadening the roads in residential areas by causing great inconvenience to the residents and encroaching land of residential properties without giving any compensation to owners whose land as been encroached. The corporation can also broaden the main roads too. The corporation as broaden the Fr. Muller's road without any trouble same way they should broaden the road at Jyothi, GHS road etc. It looks like the corporation does not want to trouble the occupants on main road and only hinder the residents at residential areas. By the way what happened to the plan of broadening Mother Teresa road, Falnir.

Better late than never sir. Do it quickly. Due to such such unwanted rallies processions daily from Ambedkar circle to DC's office public are experiencing lot of problems. this should have done long back. In the meantime Bus stand at Pumpwell or Padil or wherever be done early to minimise the bus movement in Hampankatta.

if government extend kana-thokur road up-to kenjar airport road via jokatte railway station, and jokatte railway station is made international standerd railway station with three more platform( total 5 platform) and goverment owned 500 acar vacant land into smart city then jokatte is the best place to make new mangalore central bus stand, this place is also center to bikampady industrial area, surathkal , msez, bajpe, bodel, kavoor(mangalore north vidhana sada consistency)
