Hampi world heritage site vandalised by hooligans, video goes viral

Hampi, Feb 3 (IT): After a video showing some youths vandalising ancient pillars at the world heritage site in Hampi, Karnataka, went viral on the social media on Friday, police said they have sped up the investigation and will soon arrest the guilty.

Superintendent of Police, Bellary, Arun Rangarajan said the accused will be arrested and prosecuted soon.

On Friday, some youths were seen vandalising the pillars at the historic site in Hampi. In the video, one can see the youth pushing the pillars and overturning them. The pillar, part of a valuable ancient structure, tilts and falls before breaking into pieces. The site in Hampi has been declared a World Heritage by the Unesco.

The relics in Hampi are important as they date back to the prosperous Vijayanagara empire. The empire, founded in the 14th century AD, was one of the most prosperous and powerful empires of the time in Southern Indian. The village has beautiful structures with immense historical significance. The New York Times had recently declared the heritage site at Hampi as a second 'must-see' place in 2019.

The video of the vandalism has triggered outrage. People have expressed concern and anger about the lack of adequate security arrangements at such historic sites.

On Saturday, angered over the incident, locals took to the streets and demanded better security at the ancient site in Hampi.

This is sacrilege!!!! One should not even touch the ruins of the greatest City mankind has ever known. Read Robert Sewell's. "the forgotten empire" to know it's greatness. Anybody who destroys even a tiny part of this ruins is as, atrocious as those who destroyed it 500 years ago. Imagine the pain , those people went through to make this city great.

Ask these youngsters to reposition the pillars.
To make it, our legends might have taken ages
To break these guys took a second.
Teach them the meaning of hardwork.

These are last standing structures that deserves to be destroyed so that history is aligned with our political allegiance. Police will also buy some time so that this will be erased out of short memory of public. As sad as it may appear, Indians deserve this for how they treated their history not only by their ignorance, but also governments who never supported these departments in universities whilst enabling communist tainted history into Indian textbooks. Few decades down the road, the only history left from India is either on caste lines or religious lines. That's how political allegiance can do to every discipline of Human sciences.

Dear pks, I think you forgot to include the terrorists who demolished historic babari masjid also. Demolishers of this old building should also be treated same as destroyers of old monuments in Hampi. These are from same families who are trying to demolish many old monuments all over india.

In Italy, the Colosseum, the world’s most recognized Roman monument, have hit on a secret weapon: the humble toothbrush. The Roman world's most famous monument is receiving a long overdue if painstakingly slow scrub just using a toothbrush by ordinary Italians.
But in Modi's India after 2014 the world's heritage site whether it is 'Taj Mahala' or 'Hampi' ruins are getting ruined by Indians.
India will now have the tallest statue in the world, and it is the Sardar Patel Statue of Unity. It will add to the symbolic and rhetorical pride that Indians like to revel in these days.
Across the world, historical monuments and sites are a far better tourist magnet than any modern construction. That is why the Eiffel Tower gets almost 7 million tourists every year compared to Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, which gets 2 million tourists despite being the tallest building in the world.
There’s no reason to believe why the Statue of Unity would attract more tourists than India’s top historical wonders like Taj Mahal or Amber Fort. It is another matter that BJP MLA Sangeet Som tried his best to denigrate Taj Mahal for his politics.
The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has over 3600+ monuments under its custody, including 36 world heritage sites. It has to reach out to the private sector to adopt the monuments. In fact, ASI spent more money to build its new headquarters than it did on the conservation of the monuments in 2017.
Moreover, only 116 monuments have entry tickets, which can earn revenue. Upgrading services at these monuments, including at the Taj Mahal, would give tourism a better boost than spending Rs 3,000 crore on one political statue.
The fate of world heritage site 'Hampi' is one among the ruins is left to run in the bid to build Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
Once powerful Vijaynagar empire ruled by Hindu rulers seeing more destruction of nature, vandalism, and negligence of ASI.
Why the mutt head who want Ram Mandir is not taking the cause of protecting the history?
