Bengaluru: Four Congress MLAs resignation rumours - Coalition plans retaliation

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Feb 5: Frenzied political activities were witnessed in the state capital a day before the legislature session of the state is to begin. On one side, there is information that four Congress MLAs holed up in Mumbai will resign just before the joint session begins. On the other hand, it is said that the coalition partners have made preparations to snatch six BJP legislators towards themselves if the above information comes true.

As if to confirm what is in store for the ambitious BJP leaders if they go ahead with the above plan, chief minster, H D Kumaraswamy, said that he knows how to blow the fuse of the people who have been setting deadline for the survival of the coalition government by offering lures to legislators. He said that some BJP legislators who are sympathetic towards the government will come to the rescue of his government in time of need.

At the same time, Congress party is confident that the four dissident MLAs will attend the joint legislature party meeting of the party.

Perhaps taken aback by the announcement made by Kumaraswamy, state BJP president, B S Yeddyurappa, has called for the legislature party meeting of BJP on Tuesday.   It is gathered that the purpose behind convening this meeting is to hold his flock together and convince them not to fall prey to the offers of Congress and JD(S) parties.

As per information, the four Congress MLAs who are currently in Mumbai, will leave Mumbai on Tuesday night under the leadership of Malleshwaram MLA, Ashwath Narayan, and reach the city on Wednesday. They propose to immediately meet the assembly speaker and hand over resignation letters to their positions as member of the legislature. If the speaker refuses to accept the resignation letters, it is said, they will meet the governor.

Analyzing the demand for elevating Siddaramaiah to the post of the chief minister, Kumaraswamy said that his chair is not vacant for the present. He drew the attention of the media to the fact that Siddaramaiah himself has said that he will return as chief minister as and when the time for it comes.

At the same time, Congress leaders plan to fight any move of en masse resignations of its MLAs legally. If the four legislators resign before the session, they plan to complaint to Ramesh Kumar, claiming that they were lured by the opposition, and to bring pressure on him not to accept the resignation. In normal course, governors do not question the move of the speaker. The Congress leaders also plan to issue whip to the legislators, making it compulsory for them to be present at the budget session without fail, and to expel those who violate the whip for six years from the party. If the MLAs go to court, the Congress plans to engage in them in long-drawn battle to plant fear in the minds of the people who want to cross over to BJP.

It is known clear that 'Modi Tsunami' is fading, EVM manipulation is also not working despite BJP's best man given charge Election commission, CBI raids are challenged in Supreme Court, Mandir issue to polarise vote banks no one taking. So BJP's last weapon in the arsenal is used the illicit money of Ambani, Adani, Kochar, Reddy, Zee TV boss Subhash Chandra and so on to shop opposition winning candidates to form the government without elections.

But JD(S)-Congress should take this resignation rumors seriously. After two independent MLAs withdrew support from the Congress-JD(S) government, the government has accused the BJP of trying to poach their MLAs and destabilize the government in a move called Operation Lotus 3.0.

The Congress-JDS alliance has 118 seats in the Karnataka Assembly. The BJP, along with two independents, has 106 seats. In Karnataka, the Assembly has 224 seats and to form the government, a party or a coalition needs 113 seats. BUT if the Assembly’s total size falls, this halfway mark becomes smaller, and the BJP could potentially form the government in the state.

In another hand, constant harassment of DK Shiv Kumar through Enforcement Directorate only indicates that they want to arrest the man who saved Congress in the past and use his absence to topple the government.

For Karnataka fate, it is more likely that another Arunchal Pradesh, Goa and Manipur type government is imminent.

In first place, why did these people, chose to fight election on that particular party ticket?
Unlike other states like Goa, Manipur, Meghalaya In Karnataka, party having highest MLA' s was first called to prove majority and form Govt, in which BSY failed.
Then INC + JDS formed the Govt.
But in other states INC having highest MLA' was not first invited to form Govt by Governor.
