Mangalore, Jan 23: Lawrence and Mayo, a brand name that has carved out a niche for itself in the field of opticals in India and abroad, having a leading manufacturing and dispensing optician chain with diversification into scientific and industrial instrumentation, has started to provide international standard services to the citizens of the district by opening its unit in the city on Friday January 23.
The outlet of the firm in the city, set up in Raj Towers, Balmata, is its 52nd. Lawrence and Mayo is the largest manufacturer of spectacles in the country. The company has a history of about 131 years, during which it has succeeded in matching up to the peoples' expectations and winning over their trust. The company was instituted in the year 1877 in London and forayed into Indian operations the same year. It has its centres operating in several international destinations.
The firm gets credit for introducing world-class spectacles and contact lenses to India. It has always concentrated on maintaining high quality both in services and materials. Lawrence and Mayo was the first to introduce computerized eye testing and colour contact lenses in our country. A release from the company said that it has 51 outlets in 20 cities all over the country.
The company as a part of its social service initiatives provides mobile screening programmes by providing equipments such as the autorefractometer, lensometer and snellens charts to schools and colleges.
The outlet would be providing services like high quality eye testing, frames for eye glasses, lenses, contact lenses, coloured lenses, cooling glasses, spare parts of spectacles etc., Spectacles are also made as per the specifications of ophthalmologists. Individual attention and attention to even minute details and maintaining quality at every stage while catering to the orders of customers has been the tradition of the firm. The firm is offering a concession of Rs 132 on all the purchases made till March 31 this year.
R Mendonsa, chairman and managing director of Lawrence and Mayo inaugurated the newly-opened branch. His wife was present at the inaugural. Fr Walter D'Mello, parish priest of Milagres church in the city blessed the premises.
Vivek Mendonca, marketing director of the company, K N Dattatri, senior general manager, K V Shankara Subramanyam, marketting executive and Rangaswami, production manager, were present.
