Mangaluru: Underworld element Ravi Poojary hires lawyers to fight extradition efforts

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Feb 7: It is gathered that notorious underworld element, Ravi Poojary, who is required in several cases registered in Karnataka and elsewhere, and who has currently been in the custody of police from Senegal, a country in West Africa, is fighting against efforts to extradite him to India. He has hired lawyers to fight his case, it is said.

Poojary had been arrested from Dakar, capital city of Senegal, three weeks back for possessing fake passport. He was arrested by the Senegal police with the help of Interpol. Police personnel of Karnataka and other states have been trying to see that Ravi is either handed over or deported to India, through the Interpol and Indian embassy at Dakar.

Sources have now claimed that Ravi has been trying his best to escape from the clutches of law by securing his release from the hands of Senegal police through a battery of lawyers. He got the lawyers appointed to argue his case through his business partners in Senegal. The sources stress that there is urgent need for Karnataka and other states to hasten their processes to hook him and stop him from wriggling out of the clutches of the Senegal police.  For tightening noose around him, these states need to provide translated and authenticated copies of incriminating documents about Ravi Poojary's bad deeds in India.

It is said that Ravi has wide business links as he runs business in partnership with local entrepreneurs in Senegal and neighbouring states. He now plans to escape from Indian security agencies by claiming himself to be purely a businessman and nothing else.

The legal experts also feel that translation of all the documents relating to criminal activities of Ravi Poojary on a war footing and completing the formality of furnishing them to the Senegal security agencies at the earliest are the need of the hour to make sure that Ravi Poojary does not succeed in giving the police a slip.
