Mangalore: Good Response to Makkala Utsav at Pilikula

Mangalore, Jan 25: A private tourism company from Goa took the lead in celebrating National Tourism Day by sponsoring the visit of schoolchildren from Mangalore and surrounding areas to Pilikula Biological Park near here on Saturday for Makkala Utsav organised as part of Karavali Utasav.

The zoo, heritage village, lake and more importantly the water park were open to them. As many as 2,802 children and 165 teachers from 59 schools participated in the utsav.


 

President of the company Konkadi Padmanabha said that children from government schools in and around Mangalore were invited through the Department of Public Instruction.

The schoolchildren were at Pilikula around 8 a.m., according to Gokul, a volunteer. Praveen from the Dakshina Kannada Higher Primary School (DKHPS) in Bantwal and Charishma of DKHPS in Mangalore inaugurated Makkala Utsav at the open-air theatre in the presence of B. Nagaraja Shetty, Chairman of Karnataka Coastal Development Authority.

“If not for this utsav, we would have never got an opportunity to visit Manasa Water Park,” Charishma, one of the child partiicipant told.
