Mangalore: NEST Celebrates North East Day at Kalangan

Mangalore, Jan 25: North East Students Team (NEST) celebrated ‘North East Day- 2009’, at Kalangan in Shakthinagar, along with Sparsha Youth Counseling centre on Sunday January 25.
The day was celebrated with cultural programmes including dances and folk songs of the north east performed with fascinating style as well as study sessions.
About 150 students studying in various colleges in the city and Moodbidri participated in the event.
Sparsha organized this programme to unite the North East students and also to help study their culture, said Denis D’Silva, director, Sparsha.
President of North East student team, Veluhu Vro said, “This programme is to exhibit our culture in the city and it is a good time to spend with north eastern friends and for everyone to join together.”
In the inaugural session, George Pinto, superintendent of police, excise department (Intelligence and Enforcement), appreciated the cultural richness of the North East region. Students should make the best use of available resources in realizing the dreams of their parents, he said.
Eric Ozario presided over the inaugural session. “Region is beyond religion, culture is beyond religion; region and friendship is beyond all of these because of global human value,” he said.
Veluhu Vro welcomed and Fiona, secretary of NEST, gave the vote of thanks.
