Mangaluru: Passport tearing row - airport authority clarifies issue

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Feb 14: V V Rao, director of Mangaluru International airport has given a clarification with regards to the alleged issue of tearing of the passport of Rubeena, native of Kerala, who travelled to Dubai from the Mangaluru International Airport on February 3.

The statement given by V V Rao says that they have received a complaint sent by M Rajamurugan, counsellor (Consular), Embassy of India, Abu Dhabi in connection to the torn passport of Rubeena.

The statement further says, "On receiving the complaint, the office of the airport director sent the complaint to the respective agencies to inquire into the incident and submit the report. Accordingly DC, CISF, security in-charge and AI SATS submitted the report after conducting thorough investigation of the incident and also viewing the CCTV footage.

"As per security in-charge report, the said passenger entered the departure entry gate. The security personnel at the departure gate checked the ID proof and flight ticket as per the BCAS guidelines and the passenger entered the terminal building and stood in the queue for X-ray screening of her check in luggage. So it is evident that the security personnel was very polite while checking ID proof and flight ticket validity of Rubeena and no misbehavior is noticed. It is also established that security personnel did not ask her to bring the baby stroller as alleged by the complainant. From the CCTV footage it is very clear that she has not collected the baby stroller till she reached the check-in counter to collect her boarding pass. On reaching the check-in counter it was found that passport pages are detached from the main bio-data page," says the statement of the airport director.

In addition to the statement of the airport director, Amith Shetty, operations manager of passenger service SATS said, "With reference to the complaint, the said passenger reported to the check-in counter with one passport in already torn condition. Check-in counter staff politely denied, as we cannot accept passenger with improper documents. Passport check will be finally done by the immigration department. So counter staff cross-checked with the immigration department. The Immigration department stated that they can be accepted on passenger's risk and also requested the passenger to change the passport next time. If there are any deportation charges, it should be borne by the passenger. Later, the passenger was accepted for travel."

Whether it be security or the immigration officials they see these gulf bound passengers as cash rich and undeserving people who are less educated than them. The rudeness comes of out of the fact that how dare this guy deserve whatever he has, while me being such a great is confined to this cell with a meager salary.
AAI and relevant organizations whose service incidentally is built into the ticket price, needs to be trained on how to behave and the fact that they are rendering a service which requires them to be polite and serve with a smile.
One-up man ship, show of strength or power associated with the position should be reserved for anti-socials and terrorists, not for well meaning travelers.

Don't Generalize pls... I have travelled every year at least twice thru this airport... but never faced the staff rudeness anytime… even when my luggage was misplaced they were very helpful...we want everything to be perfect in our country, they don't want to adjust with the situation but the same people when they go to GCC they face the worst harassment at the airports and they just accept it without any complaints..

i have a great deal of doubt about the authentication of this article. once i was travelling back to Jordan via Abudhabi from Mangalore. and this has happened last year. while i had to fill the immigration form forgot to mention one detail. that is my native. when i reached to the immigration counter person who was sitting there behaved with me so rudely that i started giving him back. he asked me some questions like whether i am uneducated person and i told him i forgot to mention. but despite trying to convince him it was not intentional he started to abusing me and gave i him back good. and saddest part is the person who was sitting in the counter was mallu and i was really felt like bash him there only. how can this airport people treat these travellers so rudely. are they trying to take advantage by threatening their journey. because i was literally feels like to bash him and he too threatened me with dire consequence of not allow to me travel.

This is nothing but a publicity stunt by the said passenger and her family, they have gone to such a cheap extent, by having their family picture taken and published in the local paper to gain shameless sympathy and defame Mangalore airport, mistakes do happen no one is a saint, by having travelled in an out mangalore, and since it Ineternational status, this was just the case to defame Mangalore just for vested intrest, I have never ever seen the Airport authority mis behaving, most of them are very very kind, I am not speaking of behalf of anyone, but, some passengers with criminal mind who can't get the way they want spread false rumours either people can't digest Mangalore having a international airport, or other cheap reasons, the family is just trying to gain cheap sympathy, for his host country, this is our Indian culture i suppose, hats off to Mangalore Airport authority and the staff you are really doing a excellent job, we salute you and thank you, these one off incidence should just be ignored and if found false through action should be taken

This is not something taken lightly it's a major issue the CCTV footage clearly explained everything. Understand this the same footage will be obtained by court in case if charges are pressed. So what you think they will tamper with evidence ? Just don't make blind assumption.
