Magalore, Feb 10: The Hindu Janajagruthi Samithi and other organizations jointly protested against union minister Renuka Choudhury, in front of the city corporation office on Tuesday February 10.

Nagarika Hitharakashana Vedike leader Hanumanth Kamath, addressing the protest said, “Renuka Choudhury should apologize for her comment about 'Mangalore Talibanization' for it hurts the people here and her statements have brought shame to Mangaloreans. So, she should apologize within a week. Otherwise we will go to court against her”, said Kamath.

Advocate P P Hegde speaking after the protest said, “The statement by the union minister is a shame for the city and we will wait for her apology. Otherwise we will go to court”, he said.

Samithi members burnt a photo of Choudhury.  Hindu Janajagruthi Samithi president Shivananda Prabhu and others were also present.

Ms. Ophelia D'souza Patrao comments are offensive to the Indian culture. The child abuse, burning of wife for finanacial reasons, pregnant women working in sun, etc could happen in any culture including western culture. These comments don't make any sense.

Whether it is against indian culture or not, who are these goons who try to hit women or anybody else. This is definitely talibanization of mangalore!! Taliban is insisting their own beliefs in to people by force. These mangalore goons did and doing same thing!! No valentine's day! No pub culture! No cow slaughter! (90% of the world eats beef! 20-30% Hindu's eat beef!)

There are many more to count. Taking law in to your hand is definitely Talibanization!! Renuka said correctly - some miscreants are talibanizing mangalore. She never told all mangaloreans are talibanies!! These protests are gimmicks to show these people have people support. People should be beware of deviding peoples by different means.

It's sad but true most of the youth in the above pics are unemployed and frustrated. For a few bucks under the patronage of Mr. Pramod Muthalik they have pledged their allegiance  to the Rama Sena. I really need to understand what is Indian culture and where does one find it.

In foreign land then women are afraid to marry Indian men bcoz they have heard Indian men beat up their wives. Is this our culture. just shuting of pubs in no solution, our youth need to be educated on ill effects if any to the life style they are adopting.what about the brothels and call girls in five star hotels in Karnantaka, and can the Rama senas stop alcohol being served in grade 4 and 5 hotels. NO NO NO, they can only trouble the young women who cant defend themselves.

If they have forgotten the biggest liquor baron of India is from their state.( no offences to him). the pink chaddi campign and stuff is kiddish and I personally feel we should'nt stoop to their levels, we should behave like matured adults.

I disagree with shreenath Shet Omans statement. I was very much present in Mangalore when this incident happened .also I have wached all the news channels. they where slapping and manhandling the young girls when they were eating.Renuka did not apprciate Pub culture she was against beating the girls. If fully grown up male is thinking that beating females in public is Indian culture there is no difference between Taleban and ramsena goondas.if the owner had given Haftha the goondas this incident would not have been happened. who are they to take law in their hand. why we have police, lawyers and courts. We should try and build a strong nation not divide and rule. If Ram sene starts charitable work we will support them.the Muscles they used to beat the girls if they use to help the poor to build their houses and roads in mangalore everyone will salute them.If you teach your kid good culture I bet they will not indulge in pub culture. we live in western countries where there are pubs everywhere I have never come across that Indian child is following pub culture.every one is busy in studying or busy at work.remember ITS THE UPBRINGING .

Mr. Ophelia D'souza Patrao, Miyar/AUSTRALIA, your views are personal. Statement given (Mangalore Talibanisation) by the central minister is pathetic, baseless. What does she mean by that? What people would like to prove by "Pub Bharo Campaign"? Its shame on them by organising this type of campaign. I am against to alcohol, smoking, and Pub Culture.

Pub Culture must be stopped. Youngsters are spoiling their valuable life by going to these Pubs and wasting their time, money, health, social values, image and precious life too. First Ladies will go to these Pubs for friendship, and next step rape, molesting and end with disaster. These types of crimes have taken place so many times in the past in our society and our so called people are still would like to follow the Pub Culture.

As the crime takes place, then it becomes a law and order situation and our loved politicians and their supporters put blame on Home Minister and Chief Minister and the Police Department. This is of no meaning. Dear Youths, wake up and try to stop this Pub Culture. We have Bar and Restaurants which is open and always welcome for our Alcohol Lovers, both Male and Female with family to have liquor and food. What else we need.

Stop copying western culture without knowing Head and Tail. I am working with people from various Nationalities, and i always follow my Indian Culture, not the Western Culture. Being an Indian we should follow and protect our Indian culture, ethics, values, principles and not the western Culture. Youths are spoiling their valuable time in Love....simply waste of time.

It's better to utilise their valuable time in studies, reading, social work, public relations, etc. Instead of roaming simply, couples should be getting married. In the name of love, youths are spoiling the family image and parent’s maryada too. Brave lovers are the ones, who love and marry, and they don't go to these Pubs hiding their face and doing all illegal activities. All filmy affects and effects too.

Mr. Bhat, I think the people who protested against the pub attack were mainly students and they did it for a cause. Atleast they did not put Muthalik's poster and stamp on it and burn it, cause his monkey sene would come and again create a scene of it. Wish you could have been more understanding of Ms. Dsouza's comments from Mangalore.Look at the people in this protest, they are mainly students who probably have no interest in studies and are future monkeys or people who are probably jobless to be sitting and doing this thing the whole day.

Shame on the N.H. Vedike activists and others who support Pramod Mutalik and his rowdi team. Well everyone agrees pub culture is now our culture. Then why it should be prohibitive to women only. Why these people go and beat men. Above all why these pubs are licensed to run the business if this is against the culture? Definitely Pramod Mutalik and many of the hardcore hindu activists are not interested in indian culture as they them self doesn't know what is Indian culture.

Tese people do not raise their voice if a woman is raped, a dalit is burned and killed. Women in India face several kinds of atrocities in their daily life by men and these socalled proctectors of Indian culture do not raise their voice. It is high time Mangalore people join together and teach these people a good lesson, as these incidents destroy peace and harmony of society.

Our Indian culture is about dance ....and yes....is definitely all 'FOR FREEDOM'. Then it is the choice of the person leading him/her to his/her own future. If you are a 'parent', Nagesh Nayak, you will understand that by constraining your child/wife...you will only breed a rebel.

Nagarika Hitarakshana Vedike??? Nagrika means Civilised. So we shall call these faces in photographs and thier acts as Civilised ones'?? I am sure none of these faces including that Hanumanta Kamath will understand what idiotic act they have performed.

I must bring out some different issue here. This Hanumanta is the one who were appearing repeatedly on media when congress was in power at Mangalore City Corporation. This animal would make every move of city corporation an issue and trouble the development activities then. Now his cheddi parivara is ruling in MCC and this fellow has no job of barking.

So he is into new role. Now his appearence also changed. Earlier he was having tea in canteen behind corporation and now his stomach doesn't digest food unless he gulps his breakfast in Taj Mahal. This man and some illiterate juggis are on road and these people teach us about Indian Culture. Foget about understanding, I bet none of these faces in photos will be able to read the slogans in the plucard that they are holding.

This shows either their mothers have not taught them family values, civilised culture and mannerisms or thier mothers have given birth to these junglees out of civilised relationships. People who are born out of civilised relationships do not give these models to the society. Anaagarika vartane Hanumantane

By the number of people we can see in the photos above we know it is a very negligible percentage of Mangaloreans who want to go back to stone age. Just as I condemn the hardcore talibans of Pakistan and afghanistan I also condemn taibanisation of Mangalore in the name of protecting culture. I had been to a Pub once 10 years ago near the Balmatta juice centre and I didnt notice anything illegal other than what is going on in the Bar & Restaurant. You have no right to force or dictate how others should lead their life. If others are doing anything wrong they will face the consequence and not you people. Do you think majority of the people are crazy to go to PUB. Only a negligible percentage go to pub and if you ban pub you should also ban bars and wine shops, TVs, computers, internet, air planes, automobiles, railways, nuclear bombs, and thousands of things BECAUSE ALL ARE WESTERN INVENTIONS. DO YOU WANT TO GO BACK TO STONE AGE? May some common sense prevail in all those who are protesting. abdulla.kutti@yahoo.com

People who are protesting today should have protested when churches were attacked, when journalists were targetted, when girls were beaten up for going to pub. These are the acts that have brought shame to Mangalore and Mangaloreans. If those shameful acts have not stirred their concience then it is very clear that the thinking and mind set of those who are protesting now is no different than those who were engaged in shameful acts. I find no difference in Taliban mentality and their mentality

Where was Hanumanth Kamath and his organisation when the girls were beaten. When somebody opens the mouth to speak the truth, unwanted organisations  get up. These are the people / organisation are spoiling the name of Mangalore. Why dont you people stop these unwanted protest and incidents rather than blaming others

Renuka is a mad cow. she needs garland made of slippers in reality. I dont think these people should waste their time protesting what she said. She needs to be in a mental hospital. What else can we expect from a lady who cried in front of the whole nation in 2004 asking Sonia to become PM during that whole Tamasha of Gandhi Family by congress politicians!?!? I know that my 'Pseudo-secular' friends who write/comment at Daijiworld so often wont agree with me.

Why is the public protesting against her? Did she say anything wrong!!!! In her opinion she is right. People will understand if their own wives or daughters or sisters are harassed.

civilians, particularly manglorean youth becoming reckless and irresponsible day by day. instead of finding good source for themselves & their family it is unfortunate that they indulge in such nasty demostrations. is it indian culture to molesting & assaulting  girls. what protesters want? should Smt.Renuka Chawdary appreciate such henious action being a welfare minister instead of condemning. People must think in a positive way and should aware about such growing anti social elements specially in mangalore. its surprise. whats going on in M'lore. who are those demostrators to teach the culture to society. if it is not hindu culture, then why does they wear pant&shirt, why dont they wear lungi, kurta.

We appreciate Renuka Chaudhary for her comments. Its not about Mangalore, its about radicalisation of our culture in the name of religion. It should be nipped in the bud.Otherwise there will be no exit passage like Afghanistan. These protesters should protest against pub attackers instead.

The actions of these protestors reflect the respect they have for women and also their culture. Everyone knows who is responsible for the current adverse publicity being attracted by Mangalore. Even though Renuka Choudhury’s “Pub Bharo” comments were silly and irresponsible her other comments are very correct.

Renuka Chowdhary should have been born in PATTAYA OR LA VEGAS where pub culture is prominent. CONGRESS IS ALWAYS TRYING TO DESTROY OUR CULTURE. WE ARE AGAINST PUB CULTURE.MOST OF THE PUBS ARE PLACE FOR CONSUMING DRUGS,DANCE WITH GIRLS & YOUTHS ARE GETTING SPOILED .
