Dubai, Feb 11: The fixtures and lots for the Milagreans tournament were drawn on Tuesday February 10 at 7:30 pm at the Hotel Royal Garden Karama. Members from participating teams, organizers and few sponsors were present at the venue.
The programme began with a traditional welcome of offering jaggery and water to all invitees and a silent prayer. On behalf of the organizers, Tournament Convener Melwyn Lewis explained the purpose of the tournament to the gathering and president of MGAD Jason Correa welcomed the gathering. Lots were drawn by the representatives of participating teams and fixtures for both Volleyball and Throwball were finalized in the presence of the Match Referee Sudhakar Alva. Alva explained the rules and regulations for Throwball tournament. At the same time Melwyn Lewis explained the Volleyball rules and regulations. The programme concluded with a high tea.
Vinay Lewis, a Milagrean and first-ever ‘Gulf Voice of Mangalore’ will be felicitated on Friday February 13.
Purpose of the Tournament
It is because of few kind-hearted people, Milagres College has been able to give quality education to the students in and around Kallianpur and by doing so fulfilling their mission.
Under the Leadership of the Principal and Correspondent new courses have begun, which is a need at present. The College has already started BBM two years back and BCA last year. The interest of the students to pursue these courses have encouraged the College to apply for new courses like MSW (Masters in Social Works) and PGDCA (Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications) from the year 2009-2010. To accommodate the students to these courses, the college requires more than 12 spacious classrooms, audio-visual rooms, staff rooms, retiring rooms and toilets. That is why the management has taken up a new building project for the College.
As a token of appreciation and gratitude to Alma Mater, Milagreans have taken up the task to gather some funds for this noble cause. For the past 42 years thousands of Alumni have passed out of the college and are well-settled in various parts of the world. So this tournament is organized to gather as many Milagreans possible to join hands in this noble cause.
