Kolkata, Mar 5 (IANS); The South Eastern Railway (SER) has sold scrap worth Rs 240.58 crore during financial year 2018-19 up to March 4, surpassing the target set by the Railway Board 26 days ahead of the deadline, according to a release.
The SER's sales figure is 40.03 per cent higher than the total sales in the previous fiscal (2017-18).
The Railway Board had set a Rs 240 crore target from scrap sale for the fiscal 2018-19, an SER release said here on Tuesday.
SER, which is targeting to become a scrap free zone by the fiscal end, has become the second railway zone to surpass the scrap sales target.
It has disposed of 29,470 million tonnes of engineering scrap (including scrap rails), 12,638 million tonnes of other ferrous scrap, 1,700 million tonnes of non-ferrous scrap, 536 condemned wagons, 225 condemned coaches and seven condemned diesel locomotives so far in the current financial year, the release said.
