Ahead of 'Shazam', Snapchat's new AR Lens is here

San Francisco, Mar 22 (IANS): Ahead of the release of a Warner Bros. feature film "Shazam", photo-messaging app Snapchat has created a voice-activated Augmented Reality (AR) Lens to back the movie.

Users are allowed to access the new Lens either by scanning the Snapcode on "Shazam" movie posters or by saying "OK, Shazam", Social Media Today reported on Friday.

"Adding new elements to Lenses makes sense -- Snapchat has previously reported that a third of its 186 million daily active users 'play with Lenses every day', which would currently equate to some 62 million users," the report said.

In May 2018, the app launched a new set of Lens that could respond to video as well as audio cues.

In August, Snapchat released a new range of Lenses triggered by different spoken terms like "hi", "love", "yes", "no" and "wow".

Enabling brands to tap into this, and maximise exposure through as many creative options as possible, is another way that Snapchat can grow its business appeal and capitalise on the popularity of the app, especially with younger users, the report added.
