Kundapur, Mar 4: Bishop Aloysius Paul D'Souza of Mangalore visited Gangolli Immaculate Conception Church on Tuesday March 3. He inspected the desecration of the statue of St Bernadette and expressed his grief for the same.

On the occasion, he instilled a sense of confidence in the minds of hundreds of Christians who had gathered on the occasion. He requested them to maintain peace and harmony. He also requested the concerned to immediately arrest the miscreants and initiate legal proceedings against them.

He later discussed with priest Fr Alphonse D'Lima and obtained full details of the incident. Church parish council vice-president Jerald Crasta, Vinod Gangolli, Kiran Crasta, Kundapur parish priest Fr Alban D'Souza, convener of Mangalore United Christian Organization Roy Castelino, Louis J Pinto, Stany Alvares, Valerian Menezes and Alvyn Quadros were present.

Western range inspector general of police Gopal Hosur visited the church on the evening of Tuesday. He promised the church priests and management that action would be taken to nab the culprits at the earliest. Udupi district superintendent of police Pravin Madhukar Pawar, additional superintendent of police Kashinath Talakeri, Kundapur deputy superintendent of police C K Shashidhar and other police officials were present.

Total peace returned to Gangolli after a couple of tension-filled days, on Tuesday. The policemen have not succeeded in reaching to the bottom of the case as yet. They continue to maintain tight vigil in the town and several station house officers from across the taluk have camped in the town to avoid untoward incidents.

I find the coments hilarious sometimes. Now with due respect, I feel the exact oposite is more appropriate, i.e it is possible (even if improbable) to keep vigil but impossible to trust all people. If that were the case people we would not have had to spend zillions on all types of safety and security, at the personal, communal, social and national and international levels.

It is impossible to keep vigil. People should be able to trust each other. That will solve all the problems like this.

Since we know the situation of our state, why don’t we use our church resources and install CCTV technology in all the churches, which will help the police to nab the actual culprits and the power behind them. We can expose them openly.

Instead of depending Poice why can't concerned authority ( temple, church & mosque ) keep their own vigil?
