New Delhi, Apr 8: The grim connection of political lineage and corruption is always a hot topic of discussion in India. There have been many known and unknown economic crimes with political linkages and international ramifications happening over time. All these were kept as secretive and professional affairs.
BJP parliamentarian, Varun Gandhi on Sunday showered praises on Prime Minister Narendra Modi while campaigning in Philbit in Uttar Pradesh, where he is the BJP candidate for the upcoming elections.
He took a dig at his own family and said, "Honestly speaking, some people of my family have also been Prime Ministers but the honour PM Modi has brought to the country has not been seen in the long past." Varun who is the youngest leader of the fifth generation of Nehru-Gandhi family, is the younger cousin of Congress party chief Rahul Gandhi. His great grandfather Jawaharlal Nehru, grandmother Indira Gandhi and uncle Rajiv Gandhi held the role of PM in the past.
Varun also spoke of BJP's former PM A B Vajpayee and said, "Vajpayee ji was from a normal family, but had never seen abject poverty. Modi ji is from an economically weaker family. In five years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not had a single corruption charge against him. For who will he do corruption when he has no one else in his family? His only agenda is his country. He is only living for the country and will die for the country. He is only worried about the country," Varun added.
Philbit will be going to polls on April 23, which will be in the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections. During the last elections Varun Gandhi fought from Sultanpur constituency and this time he is fighting from Philbhit which was long held by his mother Meneka Gandhi. The results will be out on May 23.
