Mangalore: Colourful Start to Multi-lingual Drama Festival at Kalaangann

Mangalore, Mar 12: A six-day drama festival began at Kalaangann on Thursday March 12.  The festival ‘Ranga Sauharda’ is being organized by ‘Mandd Sobhann’, the Konkani cultural organization, in an effort to establish harmony in the region.

Dr Mohan Alva, founder and chairman, Alva’s Education Foundation, inaugurated the festival of dramas by sprinkling six different colours in the air.

“Almost all children love their mother. Those who love their mother know to give respect to mothers of other children.  Similarly, we must first learn to love our own culture, religion, and caste as well as in the same way learn to give respect to other cultures, castes, religions,” said Alva in his inaugural speech. 

“In spite of all odds, a country like India which has a civilization dating back almost 6,000 years has become very strong through various struggles.  Though it is difficult to maintain harmony in our society due to its diversified nature, through performing arts one can achieve this harmony at its fullest, breaking all the barriers,” he opined.


























Eric Ozario, Gurkar, Mandd Sobhann, welcomed the gathering and briefed the audience about the importance of celebrating harmony through the festival of dramas.

Vijay Kumar Kodialbail of ‘Kalaasangama’, Melvyn Rodrigues, director, operations, Daijiworld Media Pvt Ltd, Eric Coelho, enterpreneur, Arun, BIG FM 92.7, Louie J Pinto, president, Mandd Sobhann, were present on the dais.  Titus Noronha compered the stage programme.

The audience thoroughly enjoyed the first entry in the drama festival ‘Koade, Ini, Yelle’, a Tulu drama written and directed by Vijay Kumar Kodialbail.

There will be a Kannada play ‘Kathana Kutuhala’ by Ninasam Heggodu’s ‘Maru Tirugata’ on Friday, March 13.  There will be Malayalam, Konkani, Beary, and Kodava dramas on Saturday March 14, Sunday March 15, Monday March 16, and Tuesday March 17, respectively.

All the dramas will start at 6:30 pm and entry is free for all.
