Mangalore, Mar 16: The rift among the leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state has deteriorated further with Bijapur MP Basavaraj Patil Yatnal on Monday March 16, urging the high command to expel chief minister B S Yeddyurappa and BJP’s state president D V Sadananda Gowda in order to safeguard the party.
Addressing media persons at the Press Club after launching the ‘BJP Ulisi Mulakaryakartharannu Rakshisi’ (Save BJP, protect original cadres) campaign, he alleged that Gowda and Yeddyurappa are going to sell the party to the Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) through Operation Lotus.
Yatnal accused them of buying the silence of national leaders through assurances of securing 22 seats from the state in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls. He warned that these blackmail tactics would prove costly to the ruling party.
“Sadananda Gowda is suffering from mental derangement. He has been dancing to the tunes of the chief minister. He is under the illusion that people will vote for them by looking at their faces. BJP is not focused on an individual but is a party with a purpose. This campaign has been launched to save the party”, claimed Yatnal.
He said that the actions of many of the leaders of the ruling party have left the cadres frustrated. Yatnal added that he was still a member of BJP and optimistic about a reconciliation with Yeddyurappa and Gowda.
“Sadananda Gowda is a great liar and he decided to contest from Udupi-Chickmagalur constituency due to fear of the Swabhimani Vedike. The Vedike has been receiving good support from every district and it will be expanded to all constituencies,” said Yatnal. However, he also added that they would support ‘real BJP candidates’.
After venting his ire on the chief minister and the state president Yatnal informed that he would file a criminal complaint against BJP leader Ayanoor Manjunath for accusations made against him alleging that he demanded Rs 2 crore to support the NDA in the 2008 trust vote.
M R Vishwanath Rai, corporator, Mariamma Thomas, former corporator, and Bhaskar, were present at the press meet.
