Mangaluru: Water shortage haunts residents - Hospitals also hit

Mangaluru, Apr 26: The ill-effects of water rationing have begun to affect the city. While staff members manning public toilets say that so far they have not been hit by water shortage, they expect the problems for them if the situation continues for long. They say they have been advising visitors not to waste water for washing their feet and face.

The public toilet at Kankanady, which had been kept closed because of water shortage since the last three to four days, was opened again on Thursday.

The leading malls in the city have not cut water supply to their customers. Some private colleges in the city have changed the summer holiday schedule. Many students who stay in paying guest accommodates reveal that they are feeling the heat of water shortage. Particularly in paying guest accommodations with higher strength, the problem is acute and there are days on which the inmates have to skip taking bath, it is gathered.

Water rationing system has been enforced in the government Wenlock Hospital here. Water is being supplied in the hospital between 6 to 8 am, 10 am to 12 pm, and again 4 to 6 pm. The hospital needs lot of water for dialysis.

It is learnt that apartment complexes located at higher altitudes have also been going through water problems. In many other apartment complexes too water supply time has been cut short to manage available water.
