Bengaluru: Cabinet approves Rs 80 crore for golden chariot at Subramanya Temple

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, May 10: The state cabinet, which met on Thursday May 9, gave its nod for the revised estimate of about Rs 80 crore towards dedicating a golden chariot to Lord Subramanya Temple at Kukke in Dakshina Kannada district.

The state government had given its approval for carving of a new golden chariot for the said temple in the year 2005. The estimated cost of the chariot then was Rs 15 crore. In the recent past, some devotees of this temple had met the chief minister and urged him to execute the above plan that has been pending since long, without further delay.

Therefore, the chief minister had asked the concerned to submit revised estimate as cost of gold, making charges etc have gone up steeply, and submit a proposal to the cabinet. Accordingly, the meeting of the cabinet gave its nod for the proposed expenditure of Rs 80 crore, sources said.

At the same time, the meeting also gave its administrative approval for the revised estimate of Rs 33.40 crore meant for providing water supply to Kollur Goddess Mookambika temple in Udupi district.

There are lot of people commenting on this matter who not connected to Temple. I think not required. If it's within limit of Temple income then it is responsibility of government to fulfil Temple devotees wishes.

Subramanya temple contributed about 95 crores to state government in 2018 alone and is one of the richest Mujrai temples in karnataka. Source of revenue is pooja collection and donations by devotees to the temple. Readers pls note.

80 crores is a colossal amount. It is unconscionable that when there are people living in abject penury, such an amount is spent on a golden chariot. It does not matter whether it is a temple or a mosque or a church. This money could have fed, clothed and provided shelter over the roofs of numerous people who are deprived of the basic necessities of life. This amount could have been used to build hospitals, to improve the standard of the schools or for any other worthy cause. No God will approve of this opulence when His own people are longing to have their basic requirements met to live a comfortable life. This is sheer wastage of money.

Even Puranas and Upanishads say it clearly what divine needs from us is good deeds and living by dharma. Gold is from dust/earth which is impermeant , why offer such wasteful offerings to divine who is permanent and does not get pleased with material offerings.

when will we learn these facts, this money should have been spent of water schemes, children's hospital or for other good social cause!!!

Men/women r also going to dust today or tomorrow then why give important? It is the money offered by devotees and not of the Govt. It is day robbery by Govt that they loot money from only HINDU TEMPLES under the guise of secularism. By grace of GOD this Temples has money to provide the basic needs of the ppl and also to build a golden chariot and secure the same. Let the devotees decide how to spend the Temple Money

Spending 80 crores is OK.But cleaness of river and surrounding is more important. Roads and Bus depot is in bad shape. Residential rooms are in bad shape and dirty. These things should be given more important .

What a waste of money this is . Why can't this Government use these kind of money to build basic infrastructure - like safe and sufficient drinking water, toilets & hygienic facilities, Education to poor children, help in re-building homes to those who lost everything in floods in Coorg, TO COMPLETE MANGALORE PUMPWELL FLYOVER BRIDGE, roads & foot paths, rain water harvesting, medical and Insurance security to economically weaker section of our society - my list can go on.
With due respect, why are we trying to spend money on un-wanted, un-called for and lavish requirements. This is applicable for all religions, not only for temples. God abides every where & more in poverty that in riches.
So in my opinion this is criminal wastage of public money. But then we do not really know how it works with all Good will paid, kick backs calculated etc.

Did the GOD ask to be carried in a Golden chariot. ?NO offence to anyone. Going by the situation that money could be better used to get water for the survival of the people of Karnataka. Its the tax payers money after all are we not entitled to having to live with proper drinking water at least. Forget all the rest that could be done for the public with 80 crores. Monsoon is upon us and there are no proper shelter in the bus stop. Drainages are not cleaned and will be over flooding again.... and the list goes on.

It is not Govt fund. The so called secular Govt takes money only from Hindu Temples. This temple earns in crores from devotees and not from Govt. What is harm in spending it for the Temple purpose as per wish of devotees? Instead of wasting Govt funds on un nessary bhagya which converts the working class into lazy govt can divert that into drinking water or digging bore Wells for the public

Very correct rathan ..The govt should spend on facilities to the devotees who donate ...
Very often the funds are siphoned off to non hindu religious institutes ... for vote bank politics ..which is unfair ..

A spiritually correct nation will pay its tax on time and follow all the rules and regulations of the nation.Hence there is nothing wrong in spending money on spiritual places which puts people on the right path.
