New Delhi, May 28: Three MLAs from West Bengal, including Trinamool Congress-turned-BJP leader Mukul Roy's son Subhrangshu Roy, along with more than 50 councillors on Tuesday joined the BJP here.

As per ANI news agency, BJP National General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya said, "Three MLAs and 50-60 Councillors are joining BJP today. Such joinings will continue in future also."

Addressing the press conference where the ex-TMC leaders formally joined BJP, BJP leader Mukul Roy said “Just like seven phased Lok Sabha elections, there will be seven phases of TMC defectors joining BJP." In the West Bengal assembly election in 2021, TMC will not evn get the Opposition party position."

Winning 18 of total 42 seats, this new move is considered as a milestone for BJPs achievement in West Bengal.

The three TMC legislators, including suspended leader Subhrangshu Roy, left for Delhi on Monday evening with 50 councillors from Kanchrapara, Halishahar and Naihati municipalities of North 24 Paraganas.

One TMC councillor from Garifa in West Bengal said "We are not upset with Mamata but the recent victory of BJP in Bengal has influenced us to join the party. People like the saffron party as it is working for them."

This time, by winning 18 seats in West Bengal, the BJP has increased its vote share from 17 per cent in 2014 to 40.5 per cent. Meanwhile, TMC bagged only 22 seats.
