Child retrieved from Punjab borewell is dead, claims family

Sangrur/Chandigarh, Jun 11 (IANS): The two-year-old boy who was retrieved Tuesday morning from a 150-foot-deep abandoned borewell in a village in Punjab's Sangrur district after five days of rescue operation was no more, claimed victim's grandfather.

There is no official confirmation about the health of the child, Fatehveer Singh.

"Why was he taken to the hospital when he is no more," Rohi Singh, child's grandfather, told reporters on the spot.

He claimed that the body of the child had grievous wounds. "He was pulled out (of the borewell) by using strings."

Sukhminder Singh, father of Fatehveer, requested people to maintain peace.

The rescued child was admitted to the PGI hospital in Chandigarh, some 130 km from the accident spot, Sangrur Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said.

The boy, who had been trapped in the abandoned borewell since June 6, was retrieved by the rescuers of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).

    SAMAD what an idiotic comment.
Are you always around your child (If you have any)? It is humanly impossible.
Not every parent can be around their toddlers all the time because of daily chores.
The contractor should be imprisoned for a lifetime for not fencing or covering the borewell.
This incident has only happened because of contractors carelessness.
Your comment and Borewell contractors work are made for each other.

Very sad incident. Mr.SAMAD, pls think before commenting. IF you don't have kind heart to console, don't write unethical/no realistic comments. Is it practically possible to run behind the child or children 24/7? Do you follow what you have commented?(If you have kids) Administration dept. shall fine heavily to the landlord who dug the bore and left it open/ unprotected.

It's sad, but it has something to do with negligence of parents who allow their children to roam around in such high risk area. Secondly, we are buying S400, but we don't care about dying children. This has been a common problem for years still it takes 108 hrs to rescue. Pathatic is the right word.
