Panaji, Jun 25: Over 30 retired primary and high school teachers have complained over the non payment of their pension. Owing to this fact, the Human Rights Commission (HRC), has asked for a report regarding the matter from the director of accounts, the director of education and the secretary of education.
The HRC has called for the submission of a detailed report by July 25. In the event of failure to submit the document within the given date, necessary actions would be carried out on the defaulters by the commission.
A D Salkar, member of the commission, expressed his displeasure on the delay of the payment of pension. He stated that it was a serious matter and an explanation regarding it was to be provided by the directorate of accounts, considered as the body that has held back the pension.
"This inordinate delay in payment of pension is a clear infringement on the fundamental rights of the pensioners guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution, as the pensioners are deprived of a decent living. It also amounts to violation of their basic human rights," the commission stated.
