Prabhakaran Alive, Claims Pro-LTTE Website

LTTE Chief Dead, Lanka Releases Picture

Rediff

Colombo, May 19: With a pro-LTTE website raising questions over his death, the Sri Lankan army today said Velupillai Prabhakaran's body has been found.

"Prabhakaran's body was found near Nandikadal lagoon (in the No Fire Zone)," military spokesman Brig Udaya Nanayakkara told PTI.

He said Prabhakaran was in uniform and there were bullet wounds on his head.

Military officials, giving details of the encounter in which the LTTE chief was killed yesterday, said that Prabhakaran and his two top commanders, Pottu Amman and sea Tiger chief Soosai, drove out of their hideout in an armoured vehicle escorted by his armed cadres in an ambulance.

They tried to drive through the security cordon of army, triggering a 2-hour battle which ended when troops targeted the vehicle with a rocket and later took out the bodies.

Prabhakaran's body, the officials said yesterday, bore burn marks apparently due to the direct impact of the rocket on the vehicle which was carrying the LTTE chief.

However, the pro-rebel Tamilnet website claimed that Prabhakaran was still "alive and safe".

"I wish to inform the global Tamil community distressed witnessing the final events of the war that our beloved leader Velupillai Prabhakaran is alive and safe," LTTE's International Relations head S Pathmanathan was quoted as saying by the website.

Prabhakaran Alive, Claims Pro-LTTE Website

Colombo, May 19: A pro-LTTE website, Tamilnet.com, on Tuesday claimed that the Tamil Tigers supremo Velupillai Prabhakaran is still "alive and safe", a day after Sri Lankan army announced that it has killed the top rebel leader.

"I wish to inform the global Tamil community distressed witnessing the final events of the war that our beloved leader Velupillai Prabhakaran is alive and safe," LTTE's international relations head S Pathmanathan was quoted as saying by the website, which usually puts out the rebels' version on the battle with the Sri Lankan armed forces.

"He (Prabhakaran) will continue to lead the quest for dignity and freedom for the Tamil people," he said.

The website, however, did not give the details of Prabhakaran's location.

The army had claimed Prabhakaran and his top aides came out of their last hiding place in a small convoy of van and an ambulance and tried to drive out of the war zone, but were gunned down.

Pathmanathan said the Sri Lankan army and government deliberately came up with the story detailing the demise of the leader of the LTTE.

"We categorically reject this and wish to inform the Tamil community to be vigilant and to exercise maximum restraint whilst grieving for the loss of Tamil civilian lives in the barbaric conduct of the final chapters of this battle," he said.

Meanwhile, Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa while addressing the nation told the Parliament that Sri Lanka has been liberated from terrorism. But, he never mentioned the rebel leader in his speech.

Rajapaksa said that for the first time in 30 years the entire country is unified, following the government's defeat of the Tamil Tiger rebels.

  • If the existence of god is true, the news about Prabahakaran being alive is true, Malaysia

I think Velupillai Prabhakaran is not dead. He is the hero of the Tamil community around the world. He should be alive to continue his effort in getting a land for the Tamil community in Sri Lanka so that Tamil community can be avoided from the marginalisation and cruelty of Sinhalenese government. At first Prabahakaran''s freedom effort started in peaceful and legal way. But, the government ignored it and prevented them from getting their rights through legal way as the government is the one which controls its judicial system. And, the international community failed to help the Tamil community in Sri Lanka to get their rights. So, I think taking weapon is the only way they can do to get their rights. Now, most of the countries in the world categorise an organisation as terrorist if they are armed. I just want to ask a question to the readers? Did, the international community rspond to the urge of Tamil people in Sri Lanka in getting their rights at the initial stage of their fight. The answer is absolutely no.The international community was busy with their own business

does these photographs look real? how can he be clean shaven? dressed in uniform? with ID''s on his side? If a rocket hits, the body will be burnt, but the dress seems to be just ironed. Also it looks body and head is morphed, not in propotion !! ( may be to introduce those burn on the forehead?) By looking all these things , it is doubtful that VP is dead. There may be a secret dealing with the Military/Govt.

I am fully agree with you Mr.Sandeep and Rajesh. LTTE is one of the best gureilla warefare in the world, none to others. Their training basically is from MOSAD. So you are totally agreeing with it Mr.Khatib, UAE that what''s happened in Srilanka is wrong. Best now is to elimate all terrorists also from Jammu and Kashmir region as quick as possible. Is it not right Mr.Aziz Byari, Udupi.

Prabhakaran got inspiration from another dictator Napoleon and became one of the deadliest terrorists in the world. He eliminated his own leaders, kidnapped, jailed, tortured & killed his own Tamil fellowmen, women & children. He brain washed his followers & they became suicide bombers & killed Sri Lankan Govt. heads and our own former PM Rajiv Gandhi & other Tamil Nadu leaders by coward means. LTTE was far more deadly than Al Qaida & killed far more people than Al Qaida. His death & the end of LTTE will bring progress to the Tamils in Sri Lanka.

Dear Mr. Sandeep Mathias, Udupi/Dubai, do not agree with you. Adopting violence even for a good cause - not accepted. Your comments and appreciation are glorifying Prabhakaran''s negative attitude. If he had to think of the welfare of Tamil people, he could have taken example from Dr. Ambedkar who worked for the Harijans in our country. Today everyone takes Dr. Ambedkar''s name with respect but who will classify Prabhakaran as a martyr despite all his intelligence that you elaborated in your comment. Jesus, Buddha and Gandhiji preached and practised PEACE brother ..........

Pls do not comment on issues without proper knowledge. Indian Tamils went Srilanka for plantation and at later stage bargained for separate land. When refused they took arms and started war. LTTE is one of the biggest terrorist organizations and Prabhakaran is biggest terrorist. He used to arm small children while his own son lived a luxurious life. What Srilankan army did is right and justifiable and LTTE is responsible for the mass killings and to be blamed for the mess

Mr. Rajesh, I completely agree with everything what you said. . I would prefer to call them as a full fledged active military force rather than terrorist force. Because LTTE is the only one such an organization in the world which is possessing Land/Sea/Air/Suicide wings with sophisticated intelligence agency. I must respect them for their aggressive attitude and capability of smuggling in giant anti aircraft guns & aircraft components into their controlled territory despite of heavy patrolling from Indian & Srilankan navies in the bay. And it is a still seems like a mystery for the Srilankan army. I also got shocked after reading an article about how this jungle based Rebel group tried to bribe one of the top US lawmaker to out US plans to include LTTE in Terrorist list. It had proved that LTTE could reach anywhere at any time to obtain their targets. It is also very interesting to read about how they succeeded to hijack the complete ammunition consignment from Africa which was placed by Srilankan army and later they used the same weapons against Srilankan army. Also western intelligence agencies uncovered a report stating about the constant growth in the application from Tamilians to enroll them into the private flying institution across Europe. These enrollments were not meant for obtain commercial license but to take part in the LTTE air wing. LTTE had also flown the aircrafts into the suicide mission without any navigation or radar support. Can any other terrorist organization think about these things? That’s why I admire its leader a lot for converting a jungle based group into most organized/disciplined/committed and most modern guerilla group in the world.

First of all there''s enough violence in this world which is hard to face. Over that If everyone starts violent ways of protesting like suicide bombs then why are we saying that this is a civilized world. India is Independent, But Mahatma Gandhi never tried any violent ways. Violence is not a solution even if the cause is genuine. It leads only to destruction. 70000 lives have been claimed in this war which ended yesterday...!!

Dear Mr.Rajesh,Barbados...Did you forget that Tamilians migrated to Sri lanka for earning bread by working in Tea Estates. Instead of working ,they demanded separate state.Reason..harrasment from Sinhalese. In that case everyone in the world has to fight .This is not acceptable. Prabhakaran emerged as a freedom fighter in the beginning and ended as Terrorist.

Fighting for the right until the end of life. LTTE was fighting for the Justice. Now Lankan Government must give equal right to Tamilians. If they don''t treat them equally then LTTE will rise again with more greater force.

Mr Rajesh, please dont project the terrorist as a hero. He is a killer of our Ex Prime Minister (Mr. Rajeev Gandhi), and so many other leaders and innocent people. Also recenly on the eve of Eid Milad, he killed scores of poor. people, what was their fault ?. He deserved such cruel death. If any one want freedom there are several ways to get it not only through voilence.

Prabhakaran never dies and the LTTE. No one can compare LTTE with Taliban, Rama Sena or any such groups. LTTE is not fighting for religion not for culture, it’s the feeling of a minority who wants to make a living in the motherland, and it could be a fight for justice. If any of the foreign ministers were killed it’s due to their wrong doing in the LTTE eyes. Great neighbor is supplying arms and weapons to the Lankan government and supporting killing innocent people .if they don’t supply then the next neighbor takes the chance and have a control in the region, its just the fear which makes free supply. The largest neighbor is already building harbor in the country. If one prabhakaran die then the next will wake up like a phoenix as long as fight is for the living!! Shame on Indian government, don’t even dare to make an effort to resolve the issue, equal shame on Tamil Nadu politicians trying to take advantage of situation on political gain.
