Bengaluru, Jul 2: The state high court, through an order passed on Monday July 1, asked deputy commissioner of Hassan district to furnish documents, nomination details and copies of election expenses certified copies to the petitioner before July 3.

A single judge bench of the high court presided over by Justice Alok Aradhe passed this order after Hassan-based advocate, G Devaraje Gowda, pleaded for issuance of the order in pursuance of a petition filed by him earlier. The bench disposed the petition off by passing this order.

"All the information sought by the petitioner under Representation of People's Act should be provided to the petitioner before July 3 at any cost. Election petition should be filed within 45 days. As this time expires on July 6, the details should be furnished by July 3," the bench ordered.

The petitioner had approached the deputy commissioner seeking copies of documents filed by Prajwal Revanna on April 29. He later had explained to the high court bench that it is the duty of the officials to collect necessary fee and provide the said documents which are public documents as per law. But the deputy commissioner has failed to provide the documents which has obstructed my client from filing election petition," he had explained.
