Mangaluru: Aircraft slipping away from runway - DGCA concludes investigation

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jul 3: A team of officials deputed by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to the airport here to conduct investigation into an incident in which an Air India Express flight from Dubai went astray when taxiing towards the airport terminal after touchdown, has concluded its task. It is learnt that the team has gone back after work.

The report of the findings would be submitted by the team to the union department of civil aviation and Airports Authority of India. On the basis of findings recorded in the report, further steps will follow. In the meanwhile, Air India Express too has been conducting an internal inquiry into the incident. The report of this inquiry would be sent to the chief aviation safety officer.

The aircraft which veered from the runway and was stopped just short of grave danger by its pilot, has been moved from its position to the new wing of the airport where the aircraft is being tested. Using this aircraft for flight operations would be considered only after the engineers conduct detailed inspection and certify the aircraft as fit for being airborne. This process may take a week or so, sources said.

Adding my 2 Rupees - only confident experienced pilots (both captain and co-pilot) must be allowed to fly in and out of Mangaluru airport. IXE is not a airport for trainees.

So final report will come up with nature reason Runway wet .

Due to negligence and over confidence landed with over speed. Seems Air India express still not satisfied with previous incident.
Same movement all onboard passenger must have took the pilot for medical test else no one will come to know the real reason.

Longer runway length is desirable for many other reasons like operating bigger aircraft. But the fact remains that the Mangalore airport's current runway length is enough for the operation all variants of B737 safely under all conditions where operation is permitted.

Just yesterday a Spicejet aircraft skidded on the Mumbai airport's main runway and main runway is still down as the aircraft is still stuck. Longer runway doesn't mean pilots can operate planes in a carefree manner. If proper procedure is followed Mangalore runway is safe.

It is no use making comments at this stage. DGCA has concluded their investigation. Now we have to wait for the outcome and find out who was at fault. It maybe weather or pilot. Right we can just thank God that there were casualties except the damage to the aircraft.

I don't know why we Mangalorians are silent on this, This we need to take as serious issue. Government must take action on this, They must increase length and width of runway.
Otherwise in future days passengers will travel to Kannur and Bangalore instead of Mangalore , We are missing many services because of this small length runway, If the runway was very lengthy then we would have avoided these incidents.
    Dear Mangaloreans please wake up.

It's a rainy season and the weather condition some times remains too bad with air turbulence and other unknown reasons. Thank God the captain took control of the flight on landing and saved people from major calamity. (reminds us of previous disaster.

If we see the video, it was not raining during touchdown. May be pilot was inexperienced and did not apply the brakes on time.
Jet airways did not have a single outward incident during landing in Mangaluru airport for decades which speaks about the experienced pilots.

    Kishore Kumar, Mangalore,
Jet Airways have experienced pilots and these pilots are specialized in landing in rainy weather with gusty winds. If not, they will never land in such weather.

As I guessed , the issue was not with shot runway or or table top runway. It was high speed 90 degree turn that swayed the aircraft off the runway .
Also important to note , after the failed first atempt they landed in the second . Raises questions on the pilots alertness. Am sure they will be deroostered for sometime .

Pilot was expert in Car wheeling and Skidding I suppose he tried that with a B737. Or may be he was I. Urgency for Match (India-Eng) updates. Anyways god is great .
