Mangalore, May 27: Laying of the road without proper planning has forced the citizens to suffer from the leakage of water from deep inside the road and also made the vehicles to suffer some damages.
The newly laid road between Bendorewell circle and Karavali circle had been damaged some time back due to water leakage, thereby causing problems for the vehicles. The road had recently been built as part of a major project undertaken by the Mangalore city corporation.
The road was asphalted instead of concreting, because of the existence of water pipelines deep inside the road, it is learnt. Initially, the city corporation had decided lay concrete road here, but plan was changed later and the road was asphalted.
As already reported some time back, heavy damage was caused by the leaked pipes damaging the road, indundating shops and houses, resulting in the collapse of an adjacent compound wall too, about 10 days ago.
One of the corporation officials said that, the road was asphalted to avoid such problems of leakage due to the water pipeline from Thumbay providing water to the city passing through this road. There was a demand to concrete the road by diverting the pipelines lying inside, but the corporation expressed its inability to do so, pleading lack of funds.
On Tuesday 26, a deep depression was caused near the site where the road had been dug up, because of continuing water leakage deep inside the road. A few vehicles were trapped because of this incident and there is an apprehension that the nearby buildings might face the danger due to the cavity being creating by the underground leakage. People want the city corporation to act fast before the problems turns grave.
City corporation officials have visited the spot and assessed the situation.
