Mangalore: Underground Water Leakage Hits Bendorewell Road Again

Mangalore: Underground Water leakage hits Bendorewell Road again

Mangalore, May 27: Laying of the road without proper planning has forced the citizens to suffer from the leakage of water from deep  inside the road and also made the vehicles to suffer some damages.

The newly laid road  between Bendorewell circle and Karavali circle had been damaged some time back  due to water leakage, thereby causing problems for the vehicles. The road had recently been built as part of a major  project undertaken by the  Mangalore city corporation.

The road was asphalted instead of concreting, because of the existence of water pipelines deep inside the road, it is learnt. Initially, the city corporation had decided lay concrete road here, but  plan was changed later and the road was asphalted.

As already reported some time back, heavy damage was caused by the leaked pipes damaging the road, indundating shops and houses, resulting in the collapse of an adjacent compound wall too, about 10 days ago.

One of the corporation officials said that, the road was asphalted to avoid such  problems of leakage due to the water pipeline from Thumbay  providing water to the city passing through this road. There was a demand to concrete the road by diverting the pipelines lying inside, but the corporation expressed its inability to do so, pleading lack of funds.

On Tuesday 26, a deep depression was caused near the site where the road had been dug up, because of continuing water leakage deep inside the road. A few vehicles were trapped because of this incident and there is an apprehension that the nearby buildings might face the danger due to the cavity being creating by the underground leakage. People want the city corporation to act fast before the problems turns grave.

City corporation officials have visited the spot and assessed the situation.

Essentially, we need to reexamine our priorities about government bureaucrats/babus/netas. Instead of letting these people make ill informed decisions for us, we need to get foreign contractors like Israelis /Canadians etc or even our Indian Army engineers to do our public works. They are very good. Might be expensive but in the long run their work will pay off. Our public works people cannot think for the long-term and only look for quick fix solutions. What we need is long term solutions. Our public works engineers are ill qualified to do any such works.

Dear Guru Baliga,By your comments it seems as if NRIs have not contributed to anything to Mangalore. Do you know who was the person behind the development of Mangalore Airport and bringing international flights to Mangalore?? It is the proud son of Udupi, Mr. B.R.Shetty. He is a renowned NRI and has been honoured by the Government of Karnataka.

Who are you to say that we do not contribute to the development of India. Even people from your konkana community are also there in the gulf. What you have to say about them?? Will you come forward to broaden the streets in Carstreet, new chitra, bajilakeri in Mangalore?? You people talk only about other congested places and the very heart of BJP in Mangalore is Car street. Why you do not talk about broadening of roads there?? Because most of your community people and bandasale owners are having shops there?? There is a saying in Kannada "heluvudu shastra ikkuvudu gala".

You seem to be similar personality. Do not blame NRIs. Instead of asking us to come down to India and work try to give work to the numerous unemployed youth in Mangalore and thank God that at least the NRIs are contributing by reducing the burden of Unemployed people in India!!! Jai HO!!!!

Persons like Guru Baliga are a real danger to any democracy. They themselves do not indulge in any form of violence directly but instigate others. BJP is party of these instigators who have been continuously using people of economic and social lower strata of the society to achieve their communal motives. Today Pakistan is fighting Taliban whom they nurtured ones. Days are not far when India will be in a similar situatin reeling under the clutches of these fundamentalists and communal people. They speak about love towards animal, protecting cattle etc. But they are the most violent people around, wolves in the guise of sheep.

Guru you say that underground pipes were laid when Congress was in power some 15 years ago. Accepted. But for the last 15 years, Mangalore is represented by BJP MPs and MLAs, viz, Dhananjay Kumar, DVS and Yogish Bhat. Why couldn''t they change things for better, if what Congress did was non-sense? What has been Dhananjay Kumar and DVS'' contribution to Mangalore as elected represenatatives other than nurturing communal breed? Yogish Bhat surely is different from these guys and doesnot involve himself in communal politics. But even his contribution to the development of our city is marginal. For the past almost 2 years, BJP is at the helm of Mangalore City Corporation. What has been their contribution other than digging all the roads which are leading to the city. True, the roads have been concreted. But how? See those roads. They neither have set-back nor drainage facility. Along with this, all the roads have been dug at a time throwing traffic to the dogs. Also know that these road projects were sanctioned when Congress was ruling MCC. Not a single road project is proposed and sanctioned during BJP''s rule. Since your are working in NGO, you are in better position to check these facts through RTI.

Why bother about NRIs and their contribution? Does it irritate you that you are not well-enought to secure a job abroad? Even if their contribution is nill, let you not worry as long as they don't harm our social fabric in any way as you do. What has been your contribution to the development of Mangalore? Communal politics and divide and rule policy? Before criticizing someone on the lines of religion he/she represents, please see that you and the religion you represent is without blot and problems.

Richard Fernandes, Richard / Nitte.. I am not that stupid as u r ... Indian economy is not only because of harworking christian and muslim people abroad.. That contributes to 1% of the total economy of india... If india was developing coz of you people then no need of we working over here... 99% of the indian ecocnomy depends on the people who work and stay in india... Most of the NRI say that they are indian, but transfering money to india as u said will not solve our problems over here.. Come to india and work in the grassroot level, then only we can see a strong and developed india .. Transfering funds or forgien exchange will not help india to solve its problems, instead of transefering funds come stay and work in india, understand the problem, help the needy.. Let us make this country strong from the grass root level.. Join hands for betterment of india . "India is, the cradle of the human race, the birthplace of human speech, the mother of history, the grandmother of legend, and the great grand mother of tradition. our most valuable and most instructive materials in the history of man are treasured up in India only" Let us all make strong and developed india for our next generation

Sadly, ever article about some problem, ends in a ''verbal communal conflict'', instead of addressing the issue and resolving it. ''The Guru Baliga'' and many others are at the heart of the controversy and the rest are always pointing fingers to the ''elected representatives'' instead of taking productive steps to resolve the matter....and make amends. Pls readers of Daijiworld, address the issue with the representatives and try to work towards building a harmonious community. Let us remember that our children will be victims of a bleak future, created by none other than us, for our callour behaviour.

Are we citizens of India???? Is that the time we blame each other. Whoever it is we vote, do we think before we vote???? We just blame Congress, BJP, Bajrang Dal, Ram Sena Etc. Etc. We had given them chance and they are the very good opportunists, who have taken a very good chance to do whatever they can do either it's good or bad. We citizens are the real culprits, because we just know to comment and fight with each other. Why don''t we stand together and oppose this. End of the day our relegions & beleifs are not affected. Affected are me and you. Our children will be paying a heavy price for our negligence. Then my deal all, may be we are here in this world or not, we will only see our own fellow mates suffering. There is no time for "AWAKENING or REVOLUTION" it starts from our home. I have started thinking about my country by doing good things, like saving water, electricity, fuel. Sorry to say that today I am not in India, but still I am continuing these deeds as I know very well, that "IF I DO SOMETHING GOOD ANYWHERE AND TO ANYBODY, HOWEVER IT WILL BE RELATED TO MY COUNTRY IN RETURN AND ONE DAY SURELY SOME ONE WILL DO GOOD FOR ME & MY COUNTRY". Before commenting on this understand what I have commented about. We are Indians and we are the Best. Let we show this to the world.

Unplanned roads of the city of Mangalore by the corporation caused all havoc before monsoon/during Lok Sabha elections. The serious results are yet to come as the monsoon is delayed for a couple days. No footpath, no proper drainage systems, no place to move/drain rain water are all mindless works of bjp government in the state of Karnataka. No proper water from the corporation. After the Lok Sabha elections, now power cut is extreme. Despite inexperienced drivers of KSRTC bus are driving rampantly causing human deaths employed by the government. Heap hike in house taxes by the City Corporation is a heavy burden on the citizens especially the middle class people. Near bunts hostel market two big trees are still on the middle of the road causing vehicle jam daily.

The world will not come to an end, its just few of the teething problem faced by the contractors when the work is completed in a hurry. This will be solved but the traffic & the pedestrian will suffer in this approaching heavy monsoon. Hope they will take it in a war footing before things gets messed up.

The water pipes of Bendorewell which did not last for more than 15 years is contribution of the Congress party which ruled MCC earlier, flyovers on national highways which may not last for 10 years is the contribution of Congress government ruling at center now. (National Highway Authority of India, Ircon all are controlled by the Congress government at center).

Our Ex Mayor was busy filing silly cases against central ministers, instead of doing what was needed for the city. The BJP has been in control of the corportation for over 5 years now, yet they keep on blaming the former congress led corporations for all the infrastructure defects, instead of working towards improving things. Let us see for how long this goes on.

Hello,''The Guru Baliga''. Please do not get so personal as to hurt your own countymen. To all the readers, pls let us stop the ''blame game'' and co-operate with whichever govt is in power for the betterment of ''OUR COUNTRY'' and ''OUR FELLOW BEINGS". Pls stop the mindless and insensitive comments on political parties and instead contact the ''elected representatives'' to help us tackle the situation effectively and efficiently.

The MMC officials must understand that the taxes collected should be spent for the bettermen of the soceity. I suggest, some of the Buddigiv''s in Mangalore must call for information of the money spent on this project under RTI Act and penalise the contractor for the rubbish work.

Mr.George, You seem to be really scared about our new flyover and the quality of the work. I definitely agree with you. I had a chance to drive on this flyover yesterday, although it is not officially declared open. The quality of work is absolutely sub standard and the road is uneven. Shame on the concerned officials and departments!!

This is not new. When The entire pond is poluted, how can one seek unblemish.Contractor feels if he does the work perfectly,he will not get the job next. These things are encouraged from the top.Young generation should wake-up and bring such things to end.Otherwise God only have to save us or destroy us.

In my previous comment  on Bangalore spending money for new pipe lines, I had made a mention of our water pipes running from Thumbay which have corroded and are leaking and they have already completed their life. It is about time that MCC lay new pipes and concrete this stretch of the road.

What a mess.. God save us from every government and every corporator. This is not the first time we see something like this in Mangalore. The road in front of Fr. Muller''s Hospital was dig up to make it a two way traffic. After digging up they found that the road would be two narrow for such exercise, and so they filled up the dug up road. So we spent twice the amount for nothing. It is time these corporators do something substantial, with a plan instead of just moving around in swanky white Ambassadors with a red beacon light on it. Get on to your jobs please for God''s sake. John
