Bangalore, Jun 1: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Sunday called on Union Minister for Law and Justice M. Veerappa Moily and Union Minister for Labour and Employment Mallikarjun Kharge at their residences here. He was accompanied by Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Suresh Kumar and Minister for Water Resources Basavaraj Bommai.
Yeddyurappa felicitated the two newly appointed Union Ministers and honoured them with a shawl and a bouquet. He conveyed to them that he was keen on a close coordination between the State Government and the Centre and requested them to cooperate in obtaining approvals for various schemes and projects of the State pending before the Union Government.
Both Kharge and Moily assured the Chief Minister of all cooperation. The Chief Minister would be in New Delhi on Tuesday to greet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and several other Union Ministers. Plans were also afoot to organise a meeting of all the newly elected Lok Sabha members apart from the Rajya Sabha members, including the Union Ministers from the State, at the Karnataka Bhavan in New Delhi to discuss on the devolution of funds from the Centre to the State apart from the pending projects. Yeddyurappa described the meeting as a courtesy call and said he wanted to greet the two Union Ministers who were on their maiden visit to the State after being inducted into the Union Cabinet. On the Chief Minister’s charge that the Centre was having a step-motherly attitude towards the State as it was BJP-ruled, Moily said it was not true. “It is only a misapprehension and there is no genuine reason behind it. The Centre has released a large quantum of grants and the State will surely get its legitimate share from the Centre. Both the Centre and State should work together,” he said.
Referring to his visit to the residences of Moily and Kharge, Yeddyurappa remarked that he was ready to visit anybody’s doorsteps for the sake of development of the State. He said he would seek the Central assistance for reducing the impact of global recession. He said the Opposition parties too should realise their responsibility of contributing to the state’s development.
