Mysore: 55-year-old Vice Principal Stabbed to Death in Staff Room

Mysore, June 10 (SOM): In a ghastly incident, Prof. Chandra-lekha Gurjar (55), Vice-Principal of Sarada Vilas Pharmacy College, Krishnamurthypuram, was murdered in the College staff room this morning.

The incident came to light at around 11.30 am when other staff members went to the staff room only to find her lying on the floor in a pool of blood.

Puttanna, the Office Manager of the Institution, who was relieved from his job yesterday, allegedly committed this murder by slitting her throat with a knife and stabbing her all over the body, according to Ashokpuram Police who visited the spot following a complaint.

Puttanna was relieved from duty following Prof. Chandra-lekha's complaint to the Principal regarding his inefficiency.

Puttanna, who was to hand over the keys to the Institution yesterday, came to the College today and met the Principal.

Later, he came to the staff room where Prof. Chandralekha was alone and committed the crime, according to Police. After the murder, he is learnt to have thrown the knife beside her body and gone to the nearby computer room where he was found sitting alone.

According to sources, Putta-nna allegedly committed the crime unable to bear the harassment meted out by the Vice-Principal resulting in his losing the job.

Ashokpuram Police conducted mahazar and arrested Puttanna.

Puttanna, a resident of Alanahalli, who took voluntary retirement from Bank of Baroda, had joined the Institution on Jan. 15, 2009.

On being informed about the tragedy, Prof. Chandralekha's husband Jagadish Gurjar, residing in Ramakrishnanagar, rushed to the College even as the students and the staff rushed to the spot where crime was committed.

Ashokpuram Police Inspector Kallesh, DCP D'Souza and ACP Jayaram visited the spot.

It''s a very shocking and dreadful incident. The accused Puttana has been stating a false reason “Chandralekha ill-treated me and, on Tuesday, she told me I’d been sacked" for his brutal act. This is very untrue as Chandralekha madam had been working in Farooqia college for 23 years which had been more dominated by Muslims and she had gained a very good reputation and best known for her simplicity and dedication towards work. This clearly reflects her attitude towards other caste/religion. Puttana had been misusing the powers he had at college in making extra money and was very disinterested towards work. This had been in the knowledge of the entire management and it was their decision together which lead to the dismissal of Puttana, probably Chandralekha madam would have a strong say over it which led to her tragic end. I am finding it hard to digest the truth of how Puttana alone could accomplish such a merciless act without any accomplice. There are many hidden truths which are deep submerged. As stated in one of the leading news papers of Mysore Puttana had bolted staff room doors and slit Chandralekha madam’ throat and stabbed her. To add to the fury the miscreant waited till her last breath and witnessed her struggling which is the most intolerable and unpleasant scene for any human to experience. This is truly an act that can be performed by only psychopaths. Puttana should not be spared and should be sentenced to death for causing such a loss for Chandralekha madam family. This would alert all the psychopaths and help avoid such incidents happening again in future. The only mistake she committed is being very true and sincere towards her work. She had been constantly thinking about the growth of each of her individual students. There are many stories untold about her loyalty which is yet to come to light. The college authorities even restrained themselves from even signing a complaint against Puttana thinking it would hamper the reputation of the college and to add to the shame there has not been even a single person representing “Sarada Vilas Pharmacy College” at condolence ceremony. May Chandralekha madam’s family get the strength to overcome this tragedy soon and her soul rest in peace. -Rakesh

Im chandralekhs''s cousin. She was very honest and sincere worker. I know her closely. She is my fater''s younger sister. We cant believe we lost her. I feel bad reading comments about her where some people say that it was her fault. But there was no fault from her end. She was only college professor and not principal. So she didnt have any rights to take decision of removing puttana. He was very irregular to college and was making money and misusing files. This caused her problem to work. So she went to principal and tpold him that he was misplacing all files which stopped her from working.

She never insulted him. She worked in Farooqia college mysore for 23 years where every student used to like and respecther. If she had to discriminate on catse or insult someone she wld have done this before. She was very dedicated worker. It was managements decision to remove puttana from college and not my chandra atte''s decision.

She just told prinicpal that he was irregular to office and was misplacing files. Because of this management took decision to remove him. I think management is also involved in this some or the other way. Please dont blame my chandra atte. There was no fault from her end at all.

Very sad and shameful news. protection and precautions should be strictly taken by the administaration to stop this and lady teachers should be careful while dealing with these type of mental irriatetd co-workers. may be puttanna mentally disturbed due to the complain and loss of his job but bump off someone is not the solution for the complaint.

It''s sad to see that there are still people as Mr.Imtiaz justifying a crime as serious as murder for a woman insulting a man.I also would like to tell Mr. Ranjith that these comments can sometimes open the eyes of some people and enlighten others who think that they should follow the foot steps of people like Puttanna who have acted in haste.

Dear Readers, its a crime, which as been done and the person has been arrested & going to be punished. now why are you people commenting on it as your comments won't bother anyone. even if another Puttana wants to murder someone, they won't read your suggestions nor follow it. why cant you people just read it and collect the news rather than giving absurd comments.

I agree with the comment from Mr. Vinay, US. Yes, killing is not the answer for an insult, instead insult could be dealt in other humane methods.

This is a very sad news we cannot blame Mrs Chandraleka she was just doing her duty, It does not give pleasure for someone to terminate one''s job, there must be strong reason''s behind this. Moreover he had already taken a retirement so financially he might not have that much problem''s.Commiting a crime is pusishable by law which he has to under go. Some one had said Haste makes waste,Now his hasty decision has made his life a waste.

In all private colleges people are repremended and dismissed without any second thought, Puttanna must have had some other reasons (may be real / imagined caste based abuse) apart from his own dismissal.

Come on yaar Puttanna... the world is such a huge place, u could had got another decent job anywhere.. there was no need for killing that lady.. u are not justified my frnd.... Is taking ones life away so easy.. i dont think so... but this is what our system has in store for us..People can commit this kind of crime, sit behind bars for some six years with all the safety & free food & get out... six years behind bars is not the punishment equivalent 4 taking ones life i guess..

This has happened in fist of anger and revenge. The act is highly condemnable. People must learn to be more polite and diplomatic in handling such issues. Termination could have been delayed and could have done under some other pretext. The whole situation was mishandled and mismanaged.

Both the management of the college and Puttana are at fault. First we must diffuse the crisis and then find a way out from the issue. Had it been handled properly and professionally, this tragedy would have been averted. Any way we cant bring the woman back in to life. However we can pray for her soul.

To anger if you add one letter D then it becomes DANGER. So the man lost his tolerance and did such an act. Discussing such insults with the loved ones or with the understanding persons one can avoid such henious crime. In a moment of rage one life is lot and the other has to suffer behind the bar. Even left out the guilty conscious will haunt Puttanna for the rest of his life.

Very sad news. This happened due to mental torture and insult to a man by a lady. Ladies should be careful next time when commenting or finding a fault of a man or even another woman. Because losing job and respect at the same time can make anyone insane. This is the result of such ruthless decision taken by madam Chandralekha, anywayz, may God Bless her soul and rest her in eternal peace.
