Bengaluru, Aug 2: The states of Kerala and Andhra Pradesh have already considered to execute the ‘no helmet, no fuel’ policy. Following this ideology, police in Bengaluru will enforce a similar rule for bikers from August 5. The DCP Traffic East Bengaluru, KV Jagadish stated that, a meeting with petrol pump owners will be conducted on Aug 3 and the rule will be implemented from August 5. He also said, as of now there was provision for penalty on petrol pump workers.

As per the data, number of road accidents is on the rise, especially riders of two-wheeler. Most of the time, the riders are without the helmet. In order to minimize the fatalities, the step has been carried out by the police. In the year 2018, over 150 two-wheeler riders died in accidents compared to 2017, where close to 140 deaths were recorded. In a study carried out by the United Nations, a certified helmet was considered good enough to improve chances of accident survival of by 42 per cent and avoid injuries up to 69 per cent.

An observation was made where it was found that, several riders were responsible for violating the law of wearing helmet. In 2015, 1.77 crore riders were fined in Bengaluru for not wearing helmets, 1.88 crore in 2016 and more than 2 crore in 2017.

Ravindra, president of the Bengaluru Petroleum Owners’ Association, said, “There have been a select few outlets that have been approached by the police as of now. This is obviously good and will increase the safety of the riders. We do not have a problem with this rule but in certain pockets of the city there are rowdy elements, who might vandalize the store if we deny them service. So, we have to see what the police propose for this.”

It's a good move.Helmets can only save us from head injury after the accident, But repairing potholes will definilty reduce a huge no. of accidents.

The rise in Road Accidents is mainly due to the use of Mobile while riding/driving - Trafic Police just stand and look at them. The other reason is our road condition and not following the rules while driving.
Unless these things are taken care there is no point in penalising petrol bunk staff for the negligence /arrogance of the riders

No harm in tipping poor pump workers in case of emergency !
But the bottom line is your safety is your business !! no laws will save you from your negligence !!
