Panaji, Aug 5: Goa Police have released a data which showed 13 per cent of women rescued from sex trafficking were majorly Goans. Out of the 102 women rescued in last year, it was observed that 28 were from Maharastra and 13 were from Goa. Over 20 per cent of the women rescued were foreign nationals and belonged to countries like Russia, Israel, Ukraine, Nepal, Uzbekistan and Bangladesh.
Anyay Rahit Zindagi (ARZ), the nodal NGO appointed by Goa police stated that the rescued victims did not represent the reality of the situation. ARZ director, Arun Pandey claimed that NCR region was one of the major areas where the criminals in Goa picked up women for trafficking.
Pandey also reported that activities like sex-trafficking were multiplying with time. With the several inquiries held, it was observed that most customers were domestic tourists.
