If you get any sms, whatsapp messages, mails, etc, saying you have a won a prize, even if it looks genuine with company logo or letterhead, please do not reply to such mails. Usually this happens, for example, after you have purchased a TV or a music system or a valuable electronic item online, they get your personal information and call you saying you have been selected as the lucky customer by the TV company and you would be rewarded. Avoid such messages.

If you get a mail in your inbox from any of your close relatives or friends stating that they are in hospital and need some money urgently and ask you to transfer it to the mentioned bank account, and that their phone is dead or stolen and that they cannot call personally, please call them up personally and confirm with them before proceeding. Usually this happens after their mail account has been hacked.

While using atm cards in the atm, do not hand over your card to anyone who comes to help you, even if it is the bank security personnel, and never ever disclose your ATM pin.

While making payments using atm cards in shops, please check your name on the card once it is returned to you payment is done. sometimes some scrupulous elements exchange your cards with similar looking blocked cards.

If you get a call from so-called "customer care" of LIC or other insurance policies held by you and the person says that you have accumulated bonus or that you are eligible for a cash back, and asks for your details, please do not entertain such calls. it might sound extremely genuine, but please keep in mind, no insurance companies call to inform such things.

If you put any ad for selling things on olx or other websites, and if a person contacts you to send a QR code so that he can make a paytm payment, please do not send it. Instead ask for cash payment or ask him to transfer through net banking. Once you send the QR code, you will get a sms saying, so-and-so amount has been transferred to your account by that person. But in reality that is a fake sms sent through fake website which cannot track the sender's name. This is the latest kind of fraud which is happening.

Points to note during fraud calls. Usually the caller speaks in broken English or Hindi, and when he/she is speaking, there would be lot of background noise which sounds like a telemarketing hub or a call center. If you have call-identyfying app like Trucaller in your mobile, it surely will let you know that the call is from some part of north India, usually from Uttar Pradesh or Jharkhan, but the person calling will say that he is calling from Mumbai or Delhi.
