Mangaluru: Crack appears on Thokkottu flyover - Police regulate traffic

Mangaluru, Aug 10: A crack has appeared in a part of Thokkottu flyover. The police have cordoned off the spot with barricades to make sure that vehicles do not move over it.

Although the information that the said flyover had developed a crack had spread on Friday afternoon, there was no clarity or confirmation. Many people, worried by the news, rushed to Thokkottu to check the fact for themselves. Even though they made enquiries, they did not get proper information. Therefore they returned.

A few motorists who used the flyover even said that they felt the road vibratiing while passing near the area which is now cordoned off by the police.

Now the police have confirmed that crack has actually appeared on the flyover. They said that barricades have been set up to control vehicular movement at the spot. Officials have visited the spot and the crack is being scrutinized, they stated.

    Sir M. Vishvesharayya along with Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV built Krishnaraja sagar dam more than 90 years ago and it is still serving the purpose. I wonder what will happen to this flyover in next few years. Thokkottu flyover has already developed cracks few months after inauguration by BJP M.P. of Dakshina kannada district.

    Haha. One flyover -Thokuttu already has cracks.
    The other flyover at Pumpwell still not completed. Its pillars are already more than 8 yrs old and its lifespan is already reduced before inauguration!!

    The Thokkottu flyover, after eight years since its construction began, has finally been inaugurated by MP Nalin Kumar in a small ceremony on June 13, 2019.

    It was just after two months of much awaiting this flyover develops 'cracks'. But the old bridge in Gurupura is one of the oldest bridge in the district built in 1923, across the River Phalguni on Nanthoor-Moodbidri-Karkala National Highway 169, connecting Mangaluru is still serving the nation and Mangalore.

    The story of Thokkottu flyover cracks is similar to Varanasi flyover collapse in which at least 18 killed as under-construction. Similarly cracked appear on Delhi-Meerut expressway two months after Modi inaugurated remains 64% incomplete with only three kilometers having been built since the ‘inauguration’. Massive water logging has led to cracks and parts of the road caving in.

    The Mangalore was under BJP ruling since 1991 more than 25 years. There is two union minister for three terms served the nation. By default, BJP has a question for 70 years contribution of previous governments.

    But it comes to its own 'Development' Thokkottu flyover is the living example. Ultimately common people who pay the lives for this sub-standard construction.

    The British, Mughals and even old Hindu rulers of Archeology still stand with pride. But BJP development collapses even before fully completed.

    The sad reality of $5 Trillion economy.

    Nitte University, Deralakatte, has not followed DC orders, ever. Not a single day of holiday has been granted. I have classmates who come from Kerala and from so many far places. Their attendance and classes are not thought about. They put their lives in danger by not following DC order. This is a clear violation of state order. DC please look into this. I can not protest in public as I will be penalised. But this is unfair.

    I think this bridge was built by Navadurga construction co. Government should take strict action, if they found guilty for not using suitable materials during construction, also blacklist such companies, so that other may follow strict regulatory orders.

    Well @Dinkaar , When the BJP government takes crores of money from the development fund and give it to the Congress politicians, MP's and MLA's will happily join BJP and in the process there's not enough money to build proper infrastructure. So Flyovers will get cracks.

    It's simpler if you use your brain sometimes.
