Mangalore, Jun 17: Members of various unions of bidi workers from Kerala state took out a rally and held protest demonstration in front of Bharth Bidi Factory in the city, demanding for the immediate release of additional dearness allowance to the workers, pending payment since 1996.

Along with the main demand about the disbursal of the pending dearness allowance, the arrears in dearness allowance effective from April 1, 2008 that is Rs 8.30 should also be paid and that the management should extend all the facilities that the bidi workers of Karnataka enjoy, he demanded.
Leaders from various unions, Viswanath Shetty, P Krishnan, V V Balakrishnan, Janaki and others were present. The rally was organized after holding programmes in various parts of Kerala, which were inaugurated on June 9.
