Medak, Aug 14: A principal of a Gurukul for tribal girls ordered 150 students to undergo a haircut. The reason for the insensitive act was cited as being means to save water in the hostel. The issue came to light on Tuesday, August 13.
The principal K Aruna, arranged for two barbers and forcefully asked every girl to shell out Rs 25 for the haircut. The extreme step taken by the principal is slammed by the parents of the girls who protested against the principal’s ill treatment towards their kids.
When asked for justification regarding their actions, the staff claimed that the students were unable to maintain their hair, in the light of the water scarcity faced by the hostel. School principal K Aruna tried to downplay the situation by stating that all students were like her own children and denied the haircut was done against their will. She said that the haircut was done after permission was obtained from the regional coordinator and only few of the parents were against the act.

Soon the incident was brought to the notice of collector, M Dharma Reddy, who demanded an immediate explanation from the principal. The collector also ordered BC Welfare Department to undertake a quick inquiry into the incident and submit a detailed report. "I came to know that some parents even assaulted the staff which is not proper," he said.
Some of the girls were reported to have suffered injuries due to the haircut which the Collector said would be looked into once the report is submitted.
