Udupi, Jul 23: Shirva’s 108 and Community health centre ambulances idle without drivers. Social worker Pawan Kumar submitted a memorandum to deputy commissioner Swaroopa T K demanding the provision of 108 ambulance service at Shirva Community Health Centre.

Currently, there are two ambulances at the Shirva Community Health Centre, one 108 ambulance and another hospital ambulance. However, both lack drivers. The hospital ambulance operates only three days a week during working hours, while the 108 ambulance remains idle without a driver and has been shifted to Karkala, upon asking the officer they say it has been repaired.

Pawan Kumar highlighted that due to the large population in Shirva, the availability of 108 ambulances is crucial. In emergency situations, patients are forced to use private ambulances at high costs due to the non-availability of government ambulance services.

Responding to the memorandum, deputy commissioner Swaroopa T K assured that the issue will be resolved within a week and the 108-ambulance service will be provided to Shirva.
