Mangaluru: Heavier fines - Strict implementation of plastic ban from Sep 1

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Sep 1: Plastic ban rule is being implemented strictly from September 1 everywhere, including the city of Mangaluru. Anyone violating the rule will have to pay a heavy fine.

State forest, environment and biodiversity ministry had brought out a plastic ban order in 2016. The member secretary of National Green Tribunal (NGT)-SLC (State Level Committee) has taken out a circular on August 27 to implement the said order from September 1 strictly under all the district administration, zilla panchayat, city corporations, town municipality and city municipality areas. The order also states to impose heavy fine and also take stringent legal action against the offenders.

The state government had formed a state-level committee on February 13, 2019, under the guidance of National Green Tribunal, on the complaint that the plastic ban order is not being implemented effectively in the state of Karnataka. The committee had directed the government to take stringent action against the offenders as the rule is not being followed in the state.

Madhu S Manohar, Environment engineer of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) says, "MCC has formed four teams under the direction of NGT-SLC. Every team will conduct three raids per week. The drive will start from Tuesday, September 3 itself."

MCC commissioner has said in a publication that if the use or sale of plastic is noticed from September 1 during the inspection, all the prohibited plastic will be seized without any warning and a fine from Rs 1,000 to 10,000 will be imposed on the offender. If this directive is violated again, the action will be taken to cancel the trade license.

No proper collection of garbage from the homes and this has made people to use plastic at homes and throw them at nearest places. because of this plastics go around the city like Bengaluru and everywhere in India infact. The government and municipalities collect huge money from the people and fail to provide proper amenities....!!!!???? Action has to be taken against municipalities immediately and not petty business men and people who are already on the verge of dying because of stupid policies without proper backup.

This stupid action has been taken without thinking. First of stop supplying milk, alcohol, vinegar, oils, pickles, water and such food items supplying to the people...!!!!! If you as a government can not control these things and penalising small pet business men is not justified.

Concerned authorities need to clarify " Total Plastic Ban" whether it applies to various products and items packed in different grades and different microns of plastic available in the market or just for plastic carry bags.

Dear officer , good work, go to KMF in the morning, fine them heavily, ride liquor shops and bars in the evening. You may get good revenue for your department. Milk packet is made up of plastic. Some liquor bottles are plastic made. Don't harass comman man, suffered paying GST and price hike.

Firstly let them ban Pepsi, coke and all aerated drinks plastic bottles, mineral water plastic bottles, maggi covers, sanitary pad covers, diaper covers made of plastic rather than troubling the plastic dealers who are benefiting both trade and employment of the country in a good way. People use plastic cover to dispose their waste as it is easy, if I have to vomit while traveling, I need a plastic cover. The main problem is the waste disposal system not the dealers of plastic. The government has failed in disposing the waste properly, instead of correcting it, they are targeting the dealers who are making their living out of it. Plastic is one of the best inventions of the century, rather than banning it, let them get methods to use it in a correct way.

Production and use of plastic does not pollute. Throwing of plastic pollutes. Why not have collection centers of plastic where a person gets a small monetory incentive.People will be motivated to deposit plastic items at the collection center. Money makes the mare go! Ragpickers will also enthusiastically collect waste plastic items as it will give money.Plastic is used in many items that people use and is unavoidable in certain items eg the mobile phones have PCBs , sanitary napkins and diapers have plastic, pens are made of plastic.Certain items are avoidable.Plastic collected can be recycled and put to good use like resurfacing of tar roads, etc.

Mr. Madhu S. Manohar please seal the production company ,at industrial area Baikampady first, if supply stop need not required any team to find in shop, Instead of cancel trade licence ,cancel production licence, As well plastic supplier should stop supply and sale of plastic bags shop keepers, then only you can control and stop plastic,
Stop issuing licence to the production company all over state and stop plastic bags import or entry to state. In circular report its not mentioned about stop or ban production .
