Former PM Manmohan Singh hits out at govt, calls slowdown 'man-made crisis'

New Delhi, Sep 1 (IANS): Days after the Finance Ministry reported contraction in the GDP growth, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday slammed the Narendra Modi government blaming its policies for the economic slowdown in the country.

"India has the potential to grow at a much faster rate, but the all-round mismanagement by the Modi government has resulted in this slowdown," said Singh, who is also an eminent economist.

Calling the slowdown a "manmade crisis", Singh, in a detailed statement, primarily blamed the Modi government's decision of demonetisation and a "hastily implemented GST" for the current state of economy.

The Congress shared Singh's statement on its official Twitter handle indicating that it was the party's position as well. With senior party leader and former Finance minister P. Chidambaram in CBI custody, Manmohan Singh is the only credible face the Congress has to speak on the economy.

The Congress leader said more than 3.5 lakh jobs had been lost in the automobile sector alone and he claimed similar large-scale job losses in the informal sector.

"Domestic demand is depressed and consumption growth is at an 18-month low. Nominal GDP growth is at a 15-year low. There is a gaping hole in tax revenues. Tax buoyancy remains elusive as businessmen, small and big, are hounded and tax terrorism continues unabated. Investor sentiments are in the doldrums. These are not the foundations for economic recovery," he said.

Highlighting the rural distress, Singh said: "Farmers are not receiving adequate prices and rural incomes have declined. The low inflation rate that the Modi government likes to showcase comes at the cost of our farmers and their incomes, by inflicting misery on over 50 per cent of India's population."

Citing RBI's transfer of Rs 1.76 lakh crore to the government, the former PM also accused the latter of attacking the autonomy of institutions.

Previously as there is no strong opposition to congress..they use to do whatever as they like. Congress is there even before independance. One party ruled many years. See where it reached nation..upto poverty line. If Sardar Patel would have been Prime Minister..once again India would have called ' Golden Bird '. Congress shattered dreams of indians. When foundation is strong no one shake economy. They are busy in looting spree and made ex-chequer empty. For that reason time come to pledge gold in Bank of England. After becoming modiji as prime minister all corrupt people come to limelight and are recovering looted money and more of destroyed by introducing demonteisation. Now government having much money. Can even able to introduce monorail between kinnigoli to belman. Already surplus money in RBI we recovered for developmental process.

I have read most of the comments written by the readers here. While an overwhelmingly majority are in favour of what Dr. Manmohan Singh has said, I am stunned to see quite a number of comments attacking him and springing to the defence of Mr. Modi. Of course, everyone is entitled to his or her views but what is appalling is there are still people who are defending Modi's policies and finding fault with Dr. Singh. It needs to be remembered that Dr. Singh's policies insulated India from the recession in 2008 and I am sure if he was in power, we wouldn't have seen the dark days we are going through under Mr. Modi. Whether one likes it or not, it is an established fact that Mr. Modi just doesn't have it in him to lift the country out of the morass it has fallen into on account of the faulty policies like the demonitisation and the GDP. Comparing Modi with Manmohan is like comparing sunlight with darkness. While Dr. Singh is a master in economic policies, the other person is a master in misleading the country. It is your prerogative to support any party. All I am saying is the facts are in front of you. Please don't blindly support a person just because you like him. See his credentials and his capabilities, see the number of lies he has uttered and see the unenviable economic condition of our country. Modi's foreign trips are not going to fill the stomachs of those who have lost jobs. He needs to think out of the box and come up with ideas that are going to lift the country from the depths of despair. For that, he needs efficient people around him. Not sycophants whose only qualification is loyalty to him. A good idea would be for him to take tuitions from Manmohan on how to run the economy. Spend at least one or two hours on a daily basis with Manmohan and learn from him. That will stand the country in good stead.

If we have a rational population then we can sustain this planet. the equilibrium between humans and other species have irreversibly gone wrong. There are other pressing issues too. Mr Modi has talked of all these issues so we support him. The structural changes like GST are disruptive agreed but you cant hold policy decisions enslaved at the Risk that comes with bringing it. The problems i am sure will ease out. what are stake is also cleaner economy not just the GDP numbers.

We are living in a fool's paradise. The true facts about the economy are not brought forward. The govt has simply changed the benchmark for computing inflation numbers and wholesale price index, else the GDP, inflation numbers would be lower. All this is being covered by news of bank re-organisation, fit india program, JK state etc.As pointed out , the real sufferers are the rural population- agriculturists, rural youth , who are unemployed. Soon there will be their migration to urban areas- they will work for app aggregators like Uber ,ola, swiggy, zomato , dunzo. This employment is not real employment but like a part time job , with no provident fund, insurance, employment benefits. Those who are not successful in getting these jobs will work at a desperate rate/ cut throat world in the unorganised like construction, transport , logistics and in the unorganised sector. Others may take to crime.

Former PM Manmohan Singh is most qualified prime minister of India. He is the architect of India’s liberal economic reforms of 1991.

No world democracy had undertaken such a “coercive” move of withdrawing 86%of legal tenders in one single swoop. Singh questioned the logic of introducing a higher denomination note that of ₹2,000 after invalidating 500 and 100 rupee notes.

Every 1% loss of GDP annually costs our nation ₹1.5 lakh crore. Think of the human impact from this lost growth the lost jobs, the youth whose opportunities have vanished, the businesses that have had to shut down and the entrepreneurs whose drive to succeed has turned into discouraged disappointment.

The eighth of November was a ‘Black Day’ for our economy and indeed, our democracy. India’s imports from China in the first half of the fiscal rose 23% to ₹2.41 lakh crore, largely due to demonetization and GST. “These twin blows damaged India’s MSME sector and our businesses had to turn to Chinese imports at the cost of Indian jobs.

The manufacturing sector's growth is tottering at 0.6%. Domestic demand is depressed and consumption growth is at an 18-month low. The nominal GDP growth is at a 15 year low. More than 3.5 lakh jobs have been lost in the automobile sector alone.

In an unexpected turn of the turn of events, Anil Ambani owned business news channel, BTVI has announced to shut down its operations since Saturday midnight. This the same bankrupt business tycoon PM Modi's government awarded Rs35,000 'Rafale Jet' deal having 'Zero experience' in defense snatching the contract from public sector HAL.

The BJP government is only good in 'Triple Talaq Bill', 'Kashmir mess', NRS to make Indians refugee in their own nation.
But no other party can beat the BJP in buying MLA's, MP's and Rajya Sabha members. Lynching is its trademark. Ram Mandir is the selling point. Nationalism is the best advertising strategy.

The RBI had to ship 47 tonnes of gold to the Bank of England to raise $ 405 Million. This way the RBI wanted to fund the current account deficit. The van in which the Gold was being transported from RBI to the airport had a Tyre burst on the way.. 47 Tonnes of Gold was in the middle of the road for half an hour.!!.Thank God, there were no mobile phones to click..!! Jesus on global economy savior - Part 1

    Message to Enoch – 23 July 2019

Prepare, the Maitreya is about to announce himself

“My children, I bring you my Peace.

Be alert and vigilant because the Illuminati Elites ruling this world, already have everything planned to usher in the reign of my adversary. The demons you call Aliens are allied with the Elites and the rulers of the world powers. It is they, the so-called extraterrestrial aliens, the ones who guide and advise through the Elites, all the rulers of the great nations.

They have everything already planned in order to destabilize the economy and the world peace, so that the world will be in chaos; so that in the midst of this crisis, the Antichrist may appear as peacemaker and savior of humanity. Those of you that are of my flock, will easily discern the Show of deception, when the false messiah appears but the vast majority of this ungrateful and sinful humanity, that walks far from Me, will run to welcome him, they will worship him, and will announce to the whole world, that the Messiah has returned. The Antichrist is already among you, he only needs to make his declaration to the world in order to make himself known to humanity.

Beware, you let yourselves be deceived Flock of mine; you well know that the Son of Man will no longer set foot on this world! My Second Coming will be in Glory and Splendor; I come to reign over my people in my New and Heavenly Jerusalem. Therefore keep all this in mind, so that when the son of perdition appears, saying that he is the Cosmic Christ, the Architect of the Universe, the Maitreya, the Instructor of the World, you are already prepared and do not pay attention to the deception.

Jesus on global economy savior Part 2.
    Message to Enoch – 23 July 2019

The disciples of my adversary and his forerunner travel the world, indoctrinating humanity far from Me; they are preparing and paving the way for the appearance of the false messiah. All the means, the economic ones and the media of this world, will serve my adversary. The world Elites who rule in darkness and spare no expense; through their foundations they will hand out money to the governments of the poorest countries, so that their rulers can prepare their peoples to welcome the son of perdition.

Very soon my flock, the Show of Deception will begin; holographic images will be projected on the firmament of all nations, representing the god who predominates in each nation, according to its religion. If most of the inhabitants inside a nation are Catholic, the image they will project in the firmament will be one that represents Me, as the Good Shepherd. If the predominant religion in other nations is Buddhism, the projected image will be of Buddha; if the predominant religion is Islamism, the image projected on those nations will be of Muhammad. These images will speak, will move, and many unwary will fall into the trap; after a time of indoctrination they will all merge into one and the image of the Maitreya, as the one true god will appear. This will be the beginning of the Show of deception...

Accounting-minded people cut costs on every front, and seek to increase profit. Like the current Government.

Economics-minded people ensure maximum number of people are employed or run small businesses - even at a loss of revenue. That is like the UPA and Dr Singh.

People can cry as much as they want, but one cannot teach Economics to an accounting-minded, profit-seeking person.

All I can say is that India will suffer a lot in the foreseeable future.

Then why this lowest GDP growth ? Is the Profit & Loss A/c of present govt ministers expenses v/s GST collection mismatching ? Its been more than 2 weeks how many flood hit families got financial support ? Lets be fair in evaluation. We should remember the money lies with RBI is our public money not from ministers pockets - ministers loot our hardearned money.

To manage a family, we need an accounting mindset.

But to manage a country, we need an economics mindset.

The present Government thought they can charge any amount in GST, and the public will pay. In doing so, they killed the golden goose. The business sentiment - from large corporations to streetcorner beedi shop - has taken a massive hit.

So, although no one has published any figures, possibly millions may have been made redundant already in the manufacturing sector.

To make the matters worse, the Government has gone ahead to turn 27 nationalised banks into just 12. At least 150,000 will lose jobs directly.

But more will lose jobs indirectly - as the software service providers will see a sudden drop in 60% of their banks sector revenue. So, the software service providers will have to sack at least 20,000!

But unfortunately all Mr. Modi supporters counter this slowdown and equate it to global slowdown, let me remind you, in 2008 when whole world was graveled with recession, how many in India lost their jobs? and how many companies closed down? to my knowledge none….. for the last 5 years you yourself make an assessment of the number of jobs lost, numbers of companies closed down, you will be surprised how you still support Mr. Modi on his economic policies which really had screwed up economy. And the laughable thing is that few of the supporters still say Mr. Modi is correcting the economy, that is why we have this slowdown….. God save India.

If one carefully analyze - Govt took RBI money ...This money was a reserve and if needed to be pumped to bank/markets to stabilize the economic conditions. So Govt to cover up, did a smart move to merge the non performing northy banks with south indian super banks. They are just hopeful that banks won't go down and no-one will dare ask question about the reserve funds used by Govt.
Govt still doesn't know that recession has just begun and it will hit hard in next months..that time they see only Khali dabba RBI with no money...Soon we can see ministers resigning and govt officials in other countries leaving the county in utter distress. Soon all our fate will be like the poor farmers requesting some help from someone to meet our daily needs....Wake up India...wake up ....Jai Ho!

For that reason more of scams gotals cropped up on his period making all nationalised banks and financial sectors bankrupt by giving loans to each and everybody. More of nation's mines are emptied and now condition is that we are importing coal from abroad. During his period itself Rs.17 against dollar he devalued rupee for Rs.32 a double. From that day onwards rupee value started to go on falling. Congress government do not had enough forex reserve. Now it's healthy as compare to others. Foundation laid down by modi government start to bear fruit after 5-8 years period. Day by day our country becoming stronger. All day to day products are available cheaper as compare to earlier. Reason behind they need person same like modiji in there country having clean personality without any corruption charges ruling nation with iron fist. Everybody appreciating modiji where ever he visit..is an good sign. Now we can travel anywhere keeping our head high. Everybody feel proud of india now after mahatma gandhi. Modiji made us proud. Foundation laid down by congress from last seventy years is showing up now one by one..where in fake companies close one by one. They only in market to loot government's money. Some are fled abroad who are in good terms with previous congress government. Demontisation is right step taken to convert all looted money overnight into just heap of waste paper. Some people use to send money from abroad thru hundi also largely affected. Now onwards at least send money thru banks.
