Daijiworld Media Network - New Delhi (SR)

New Delhi, Sep 5: With the Motor Vehicle act 2019, coming into force, few states are making a wind fall through fines arising due to traffic violation.

The Odisha government collected a record amount of Rs 88 lakhs in challans in a period of 5 days while the Haryana government collected Rs 52 lakhs during the same period. Total fines collected in just two states are Rs 1.40 crores.

Navdeep Virk, ADGP Law & order Haryana, came out in support of the new Motor vehicle act and tweeted a comparison chart showing traffic fines in different countries, which is way above India. '' Penalties for Traffic offences have been quite high in the developed countries for years ... see this comparison with India,'' Virk tweeted.

We agree the fines levied under Motor Vehicle Act 2019 and support the government. But the question remained unsettled that, according tothe claim of Mr. Navdeep Virk, ADGP Haryana , the roads and infrastructures in developed countries are far better than our country. We have narrow, mud roads and even potholes in asphalted and concrete roads. So better provide good roads, bridges, culverts etc, at the first instance and implement the Act afterwards.
