Bantwal, Jul 7: Flood waters from the tributaries of the Netravati river have inundated the power house of A M R Power Project at Shamboor village, near here, on Monday July 6.

The river has been overflowing due to the incessant rains and heavy winds that have been lashing the district for the past week. The gushing waters at the power house damaged the electrical motors and electrical installations. Although A M R Power Project had plans to commission this power plant in August, now it will be delayed further.

The machinery and heavy duty electrical installations worth several lacs of rupees were extensively damaged due to floods at the location. Divers from Mangalore, Belgaum, and Shimoga were pressed into service by A M R officers, to save the expensive installations from further damage.

Accordingly, the heavy motor pumps were installed near the power house to drain the water from the location and help in swift recovery. The officers of A M R are camping at the site to oversee the operation.

Local Opposition to A M R Power Project:

The locals have been opposing the setting up of the power project on their farm lands, right from the beginning. They also expressed concern over the flooding at the power house and cited substandard construction by the contractor to be the reason.

They were not allowed to visit the power house for the next four days as per the orders of officers of A M R Power Project. Meanwhile, officer Rajesh Naidu informed the media persons that the project will be commissioned as scheduled in August without a hitch.

Dear Antony, thak you for explaining in detail, precisely that''s what I have put in crisp. You can also buy CAR as the wording stems from MunichRe standard, moreover DSU is a wise option to be considered for projects in these regions.

From the photographs I can make out the extent of damages to AMR Power Pump house due to flood. Usually before commencing of the any project the construction Company is suppose to take E.A.R. (i.e. Erection All Risk ) insurance a comprehensive package cover available under Engineering Insurance from any General Insurance Company.

This E.A.R. policy cover all risks including flood water damages to the plant & machineries including materials at the project site. Hence, there is no need to worry about the damages to the water pumps & other equipments at the site. I hope AMR group must have taken this policy & precautionery measures to prevent further loss to the equipments due to flood.

AMR Power Pump House pumps water to whole of Mangalore but they do not have facility to pump out their own Pump House from flooding. Better keep your house in order.

Dear Raj, God is always at work and I am sure AMR have procured adequate and relevant insurance cover for the project. If they have appropriate insurance cover, they will be able to recover their financial losses, however sadly the project delay will have impact on power supply and end-user will suffer. Here again if AMR have Delay-In-Startup insurance cover, then they will be able to recover their loss of revenue due to project delay.
