New Delhi, Sep 11: On September 9, a truck owner paid the challan of a whopping amount of Rs 1,41,700 at the Rohini court in New Delhi. The truck owner from Rajasthan had allegedly overloaded his truck resulting in receiving such a hefty fine on September 5.

The Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill 2019, was passed in July and is in practice from September 1. Once the Bill was implemented it made news for its steep fines. Now, with the payment of a fine of Rs 141,700, the truck owner, Bhagwan Ram has become the first truck owner to pay such a hefty amount.

There have been several others who have paid fines after the Bill came into effect. A truck driver in Odisha was issued a challan of Rs 86,500. The Odisha driver, Ashok was fined for allowing an unauthorised person to drive (fined Rs 5,000), driving without a licence (fined Rs 5,000), overloading (fined Rs 56,000), carrying over dimension projections (fined Rs 20,000) and a general offence (fined Rs 500).

The issue was, however, settled at Rs 70,000 after Ashok produced specific documents.

I think the fine system should have integrated IT. A first time fine can be booked in the system and a list of certain violations can be let go...but if the violation is committed again then the hefty fine should be imposed. In this way the defaulter is given one chance on certain violations.

I think you are unable to distinguish bewteen a violation and a crime..and also i mentioned certian violations..as all fingers are not the same so too all violations arent the same....and if we apply your logic that breaking a traffic rule is the same as rape then even bunking classes is also a crime as per you i suppose
