Mangaluru, Sep 13: The department of English, Expert Pre-University College Valachil organised a workshop on ‘English Language and Literature’ for the faculty members of both Valachil and Kodialbail campuses.
Delivering the inaugural address Dr Ushaprabha N Nayak, vice chairperson, Expert Group of Institutions, Mangaluru said, “Command in English language adds to the personality of an individual. English teachers being the teachers of the global language should imbibe such teaching skills that they should be appreciated as role models by students and be able to bring about remarkable transformation in them”. She appreciated the initiative of the department of English for organising the workshop and advised to have more such skill enhancement programmes.
Prof Ramachandra Bhat, principal, Expert PU College, Kodialbail said that the teachers need to update their knowledge and intricate skills in order to be the effective facilitators of knowledge imparting. Dr N K Vijayan Karippal, principal, Expert PU College Valachil opined that teachers need to be lifelong learners to equip themselves with qualitative and quantitative stuff which has the acceptability and grammaticality.
Later the teachers engaged themselves in various activities like answering the questions in worksheets, discussions, textual analysis and worked on language aspects relating to second year English course book and work book.
Shwetha Viraj, HOD of English Valachil Campus accorded a formal and cordial welcome to the dignitaries and participants. Zita Joan D’Souza, HOD of English, Kodialbail campus proposed vote of thanks. Jasmine Prathibha compered the programme.
