Sharjah, Sep 21: Director of Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA), Abdul-Aziz Al Jarwan has informed that the illegal transportation being provided to the public in private cars and company vehicles will be completely banned and offenders will have to face hefty fines if they intend to break the rules.

As per the official data of SRTA, a total of 10,191 fines have been imposed on violators found offering illegal car lift service in Sharjah this year until mid-August.

Abdul-Aziz Al Jarwan also warned that SRTA will impose a fine of Dh 5,000 for first-time violation and Dh 10,000 for second time and if the violation repeats the third time, there will be legal action against the car driver.

“SRTA inspection team will have the authority to apprehend the violators and fine them. These steps are being taken to promote the use of taxis in the emirate, which has seen a sharp decline in the past months," added Al Jarwan, as per Khaleej Times report.

Al Jarwan also urged the public to report such illegal practices through the SRTA call centre on 600525252 and the number will be active 24/7.
